I’ve been on ELD since last January. The only time I’ve been inspected and they printed the logs it showed engine start up and shutdown, etc. Since Keep Truckin updated their software to show ELD disconnects one can assume it will show up also. When the log is emailed or printed it shows pretty much the same thing that can be seen from the admin page, which is a lot more than what can be seen on your phone or tablet. The guys that think they’re getting away with something by unplugging and driving will be in for a rude awakening if they’re ever inspected.

One o/o told me, when he needs to do an yard move, he crawls under the truck and disconnects speed sensor.

Does the ECM know that it’s not operating? If so I would bet it flags some sort of error.

The funny thing is that quite a lot of drivers thought that ELD was whatever device except loose leaf pages. So, they rather successfully than not, managed to drive with disconnected Keeptruckin app meant for paper log trucks thinking that they were fully compliant. Now they think that all they need to do is to connect it to ECM. Unaware that such a thing as AOBRD ever existed even.

It will show speed sensor not working in admin. Had drivers try it, e-mails a warning to us.

If we need to move truck a short distance while off duty,we can go on PC,and put PCDM under notes.
I’ve done it to move parking spots.

I'm leased to a mega carrier. The gouge early in 2017 was that all trucks were going to have to be on ELDs once the mandate went into effect. But once the guidance was clarified in the summer, they told us we were free to run paper. Of course there are a ton of infractions that could get us on ELDs, but as long as we run legal, we're good.

You can use yard move on private properties (no public roads) as long as the load is not advanced. Last I heard FMCSA has not yet fully defined yard move.

Everything required in the output file is listed in FMCSA 395. It's public record. If KeepTrucking adds to that, that's on them and not the law.

Electronic Code of Federal Regulations (eCFR)

I’m not sure that will save him as the ELD also tracks time and miles. The miles alone would be sufficient to crack him.
