How much time and sweat and , would it take to convert a 89 to 99 semi into a ELD excepted truck?

I'm thinking 94 vovlo, one I trained in love it but small. Or maybe a peterbuilt. Honestly now that its mandatory. Why not sell what people want.

I did itemize two here, but any one with any experience with this. I would love to read what you write. Also looking at 6+ mpgs.

    Thank you

A 1999 truck and earlier is already exempt from eld. Nothing to convert

    You cannot.

Those two truck models are just too old.

There is literally nothing in them to convert. You would find yourself constantly rolling a giant stone up a cliff and for nothing. They are exempt.

Buy a stack of paper logbooks and enjoy your day rolling coal in them old trucks. At some point in your lifetime I expect those old trucks to be banned entirely to where you cannot put tags or register them for use on our highways.

Thats one thing I never had to deal with thankfully, however we have had older truckstops that have facilities like that.

The Union 76 for what it's worth was a awesome truckstop in her day. Not necessarily the best...

Int he state school we showered 20 girls or 20 boys at a time in Frederick or 6 at a time for boys and girls in the Columbia campus old main. The new addition probably had more. Excluding the gym showers etc. Once in a while when the counslers were otherwise occupied its possible to grab the girlfriend and have a shower in them days. Lots of fun. But pretty daring as far as games go Titled "Don't get caught" Imagine the hue and cry the staff would have called down the thunder of punishing the couple. Not to mention the parents. Ha...

    Side track warning...

Anyway I remember the old Amesbury truckstop which was a complete facility, fuel, diner, bar (Whoo what a bar all the drinks you want) and a dance hall with the bar. Two acres of fun. And a small hotel group for those without sleeper trucks and those with shower tickets.

The last time I fueled there and got a ticket for shower went up there, found the flooring to be soft and not bearing my weight very well... opened the door and realized that the bathtub had about 4 inches deep in large ####roaches, the hissing kind that fits the palm of your hand. Not a threat to us (The Smithsonian Insect Zoo uses these speices routinely to teach school children in DC... its something else to have a hissing 3 inch long ####roach in the palm of your hand)

Not today. I'll shower somewhere else. We ended up using a rain storm that came up near New Haven while loading paint. Stood outside in teeshirt and shorts while the soap and rain took care of the mess. Today we use medical wash products that air dry in a hurry just a bit of water in a dish and done.

I remember another stop that said the showers were no longer working and were being repaired. At that point one large driver stood up and said what am I to do with this? Having a mess on him from a hard day. The manager pointed to the river out back. Dive in. Watch the gators.

Not there today either I suppose. No one dove in back there that day.

Oh really? They going after him too?

I would have a problem with that. Its fuel as far as I am concerned. If you can drive on it there is no problem.

Common story I think, anytime someone tried to do better for himself and benefit us as trucking on the side they always have to blow him down. I think they almost destroyed him on taxes too once.

You mean like Toledo 5 Union 76 just off the Ohio Turnpike. Was that way as late as 1980.

You thinking take say an 89 pete and put a 99 N14 in it? It can be done but I don't think you're going see much of a fuel mileage increase over the old big cam cummins.

Got a lot of guys running older trucks around the central and south Texas area. Anything from 1947 to 1999. What some of them are doing is getting the Telogis or similar app on their phones and using that as the pre and post-trip and daily logs. Nothing gets screwed to the trucks cause most are all mechanical 855’s or B or V8 Cats with a few 1990’something N14’s, S60’s or 3406E’s
