I believe this was a snow squall moving west to east with a Arctic front at about 50 mph .......
But there’s no excuse for that kinda carnage......

I was surprised that penndot did not impose restrictions for the interstates when the squalls were coming through Pa. I got a weather alert on my phone from the NWS.
But the squalls in the valley weren’t bad....I am assuming the squalls at the higher elevations were pretty nasty, based on the carnage from the squall. I doubt the drivers could get off the interstate as the exits are a ways apart there. The squall could come and go before you got to the next exit.tscottme and Swine hauler Thank this. -

Had part of that pass by reading. Was driving down the road on US 222 southbound going 55 and then out the blue pure snow and then shortly ice roads. Luckily I was able to slow down before I found the real slick parts some parts so slick my drives were slipping at 15 mph, should mention traffic was all going the same speed as me. Worse off that road had slim shoulders and no where for a truck to park so had to ride it out until the roads got better. So, we all recognize a problem, but no solutions. It's gotten to the point, the freight has to move, if these people don't make their delivery, probably calculated to the minute under ideal conditions, it could have huge implications down stream It's become more important than the drive itself, and it's not going to back to the way it was. Who are driving these trucks to get into a mess like this? I feel, every driver involved in this should be fired, no excuses, you can't be trusted in a truck, you're done, but then what? We've already replaced many good drivers with this ilk, can you imagine who would replace THESE drivers, if any? Eventually, trucks will have to have some kind of distance following device, that senses slippery conditions, reducing your speed to a crawl, since these idiots can't do it themselves. Dilly of a pickle, it is.

Wait, you've contradicted yourself.
The scheduling demands we drive wrecklessly but you want a computer to slow us down?
How about we STOP penalizing drivers for ludicrous unrealistic ETAs?!? Google says you can get from Patterson NJ to Gary Indiana in 11 hours. Maybe in a Porsche!
We need to penalize carriers and shippers for lost loads. Because if a driver wrecks, they fire him, call the claims department and everyone gets a check.
If a driver is late, the receiver plays childish games with rescheduled, they charge late fees, driver's pay is either docked or he has to sit for 1-2 days unpaid. All because he backed down 15 mph in a hurricane?
We need to look at the whole picture of why these wrecks are happening, not just blame drivers. -
Not drive recklessly, just no room for any error. It's all done on computer, like arguing years ago over hub and book miles and while agree, something needs to be done as far as shippers, you know as well as I, the driver is the lowest denominator, and much easier to blame than Mr. or Ms. shipper. Yeah, if it takes a computer to slow things down, so be it, like I say, these morons displayed they can't do it themselves, like "crash avoidance systems",,
you have got to be kidding, but it's on it's way.
