I worked for a company that didnt encourage but never said much about driving illegal. As long as we didnt wreck and we could come up with a way for it to be legal on paper they used it to there advantage and sent us right back out. The last 60 or so miles back to the terminal was a 2 lane and well there were many a night I weaved all over that road cause every mail box looked like a person standing on the side of the road and I swerved to miss them. I never used drugs and dont drink coffee so soda was my only help. One night I had a long way to go and I was having trouble staying awake. I stopped in at this store and got me some Jolt cola caffine times 2. Well i should of just took a nap cause I had to stop every 10 minutes and use the bathroom.I didnt make very good time stopping that often to say the least. Did stay awake though (lol)

I saw the telephone poles once. That wasn't because of fatigue, but because of Hurricane Wilma. Snapped every telephone and power pole along the street where my office is located. We were without utility power for 8 days.

Luckily, we run data centers and have giant diesel generators. We went through about $50,000 in diesel fuel in those eight days.

I fell asleep behind the wheel once, but only once. I was driving home from Houston, Texas to Austin, Texas in my car (not a truck) and next thing I know, the car is shaking like crazy. I'd gone off the road and into the grassy median at around 70mph.

I was picking grass and dirt out of every nook and cranny on my car for weeks afterwards, but I wasn't hurt, the car was fine and I don't believe anyone else even saw it; this was in the middle of the night and highway 290 was completely deserted.

I thanked my lucky stars and decided right then and there I'd never push it again. Once or twice, that frustrated my trainer when I got into trucking later on, because I'd pull over and nap if I needed to, no matter if it was my turn to drive.

But I'd rather do that than wreck a truck or kill someone.

Once while running legal (on paper anyway sitting at a shipper all day in the sleeper, waiting for a load that was going to be ready at 9:00am) I thought my truck was loosing power around 3 in the morning. Kept pushing the throttle and it just kept loosing speed. Saw a pull off ahead and thought I better check it out. Grabbed the flashlight and pulled the hood up. After checking fluids, belts, brakes, tires, etc.. I was about to call breakdown for a tow. I got to looking around before I called so I could tell them where I was when it hit me. I was pulled over in a cool down area at the top of an 8% grade. I was so tired I didn't even notice I was going uphill.

I saw something in the night sky coming home from work in Kingsport one night about 5 years ago. Checked the web when I got home and the news the next day and nothing. Thought I was just seeing things until I heard one of the ladies at work talking about it the next day. Now I'm not claiming it was aliens or anything, but I know it was no weather balloon:biggrin_2554:.
