Freight rates vary to much from locale to locale. That being said, CHR gave you the rate they believe is average in this environment. So, since they are number three in this industry YOU must ASSUME this is all there is available to you. I would like to give you some better advice but now is not a good time to start your business. Wait till the enonomy has actually timed around. Wish I knew when that will be.

He'd be waiting a long time.

Economy won't be turning around, but the freight haulers who are holding on by a string will be going bankrupt, their leveraged trucks getting repo'ed and them getting other jobs outside the industry. People who have their ducks in a row will be taking up the slack.

It's just a purge of the excess capacity that has been built up to service the consumerism driven by the housing credit/boom that has been going on for the last 7 years.

Too many drivers and not enough freight now that personal credit has dried up and people have stopped charging it. Everyone and their brother over the last 7 years was told they could play tommy trucker by just slipping behind a big steering wheel and driving some big old Wall Street financed trucking firm's big rig. Reality check.

$540 a week minus $100 for health ins minus $100 for food and misc on the road is $340 just above minimum wage, better avoid toll roads and bridges or you will be working for free, but the good part is no taxes, you have to make money to owe taxes.
