Well, not to be nosey, but how much debt do you two have? Do you guys have at least 1000.00 in the bank in case something was to happen; i.e. the car breaks down, water heater goes out, ect. Not to sound like a kill joy or anything, but if you don't have these things taken care of first, you don't really need to start a family right now. I know how it is to want to so badly. My wife and I are wanting to start a family, but unfortunatly, reality is that we can't afford to do it right now. We only have around 30,000 in debt, and I am the only one working. I am working on getting our safety net of at least 1000.00 in the bank, and snow balling my debt (See Dave Ramsey) to clean up a stupid tax that I have put on myself for the last few years. Once that is taken care of I am going to keep funding my security fund till I have at least 3-6 months expenses in, and then I will be able to start my family. If he is established with the dump outfit, he probably needs to stay with them for a while. I am sure that you are working as well, but if you have any free time, try delivering pizzas, or he can deliver pizzas or both. Put that money back and save it. Pay all your debts that you might have then start that family. Good luck.

maybe he should have asked for another trainer before quitting??? That is an option as not all people are compatible......

Well I'll get flamed for it but oh well. It's good he quit werner. Otr is no life for a young people like yourselves beleve me life is to short. I know I have a cdl license and also a paramedic. I don't drive much now as I used to I'm not that old, I have a family.
I'm just saying he has a local job stay with it. Look for other local jobs and keep looking their out there. If he goes to otr he isn't going to make the money he makes driving local, he will miss you and you him. No life for you both.
Sometimes we have to do things we don't want to do that is a part of life. I don't really enjoy hauling grandma's butt to the hospital for a stumped toe, making crap money and crap working conditions around every disease known to man, but I do it because I don't want to be away from my family and mostly because my schedule is good and it works out for my wife's job so we don't have to do day care.
The truth is this and you and anyone else can take it how you want too. Your only on this earth for a breif second and gone. You have to follow whats in your heart. If it's in your heart to start a family and settle down then make it happen. He can and will find a local job where you can do this. He just has to comit himself to making it happen.
Otr is for some and maybe this is more of my personal feelings saying this but it's not a life for young people who want to have kids and be apart of their lives. I regret not starting a family sooner but thats another story.
Point is he will make better money be home more and have a life with you and future kids if he stays commited to being a local driver. You should both sit down and decide what it's going to be. Working for a OTR company who could care less if you ever see home or wife/kids making a ok living. Or being home where it counts and making a decent living but atleast still enjoying time that is so short with the ones you love.
