So I've been running a seasonal outfit in the north for the last 4 years and I'm looking to keep rolling through this winter. Where do I start for getting US authority? Also, I'm based in the Yukon where we are not part of the pro rate or ifta system, so how does that work?

You could open an office in BC, that would allow access to IFTA and prorate, make it much easier.

Texas would work as well, also a full member of IFTA and IRP. But new regulations designed to prevent "post office box" companies have allowed some jurisdictions to require real offices with a working phone, address, etc , open during regular business hours to register under IFTA and IRP. Check Texas rules about that, and good luck..
