You can NOT legally put a older truck engine in a newer truck.

    CFR 86.099-11

    CFR 86.004-11

    And CFR 86.007-11

All address engine AND vehicle model years.

There are other laws, not regulatios that also apply here.

There are also state laws that dictate this, California and New York are two, but most states have something about emissions.

The seller has the vin # stating its a 99 motor. But then again he has a lot of going on in that motor. But #### in really liked this truck but if its not eld exempted then I’ll stay away.

I'd find a sticker off a 97 build date engine and stick it on there. Know of a few guys who've done that.

You can't put a pre emissions engine in a truck built with emissions. That would be any truck built after like 2002. If you don't care about taking the chance then you can do anything you want. If the truck has a vin# that says it a Glider truck then your ok.

    rank and Black389 Thank this.

I've shared the EPA switching factsheet several times. It says essentially that no matter what vehicle, you can not swap engines that do not have the same or greater emissions controls. If the vehicle originally had an EPA98 engine 99-2002 my, then it could be swapped to an eld exempt, pre 99 engine.

I sold my 99 kw w900l that was repowered by acert by previous owner , original engine was n14 ...during my ownership i was forced to convert it to single turbo , new owner just put sticker from 99 ...i told him no one would care cause the truck is 99 anyway ,but he did it to be safe anyway
