if i were to report a company to the dot or fmcsa that regularly & purposely has their owner ops pull 82-90k loads in california, and this leads the owner ops to either run scales or take 50-100 mile longer routes, and the company has zero safeguards/methods/concerns in place to correct overweight loads (they actually load their outbound loads with THEIR OWN PRODUCT to 65-70k gross of trailer & product --- inbounded loads from overseas come in around the same weights), would either take concern & possibly inspect/audit or run some type of sting on the company & it's drivers? i would really like to file a formal written complaint - i have heard both sides - people saying they don't care & people saying they will 100% deal with the company & it's drivers. anyone have better insight or even experience with reporting to dot &/or fmcsa?

Unless it was put in writing from said company for you to take the overweight load... its on you.

Yes, you can make calls to DOT saying all kinds of stuff to get the trucks pulled in.
Keep in mind, it will probably screw the actual driver more than the owner. The owner figures any overweight fines as a cost of doing business.BigDog Trucker, Coffey, Lonesome and 2 others Thank this. -
if i see a crime and am not involved and tell the authorities, that's not snitching

I do not know the law in Ca. on overweight loads, but in most states getting an overweight ticket does not harm the driver in anyway. If they did, I would still be jail in Florida for all the overweight tickets I got there.
BigDog Trucker and Lonesome Thank this. -
If a driver knowingly transports overweight loads and has a wreck with casualties, the driver will probably go to jail.
BigDog Trucker and Western flyer Thank this. -
Also if you CAT The load after loading and find that you are over gross in a regular 18 wheeler go back to shipper and unload down.
If you are hauling a container, you will be overweight, there should be a standing permit for your state and nearby states routinely hauled in for example when I took care of cans in the 80's I had a permit for 100K but routinely breached it with upwards of 140K in a 40 foot container or 20 foot. There is nothing to be done for those particularly those with the red ball US Customs seal on it. Break a scales now and then. Or total a underpowered truck now and then. Shrugs.
