If you don't know about the one on 83 in Maryland going down to Baltimore, you could get caught out.

The sign is only a 1/4 mile from the ramp and you're coming around a blind curve.

I blew by the one on 13 coming north out of Salisbury yesterday.

They’ve been having issues with the signs, like on the southbound side it would say “closed” when they’re actually home.

Of course I wound up forgetting about that yesterday afternoon going north.

The sign said “closed”, so I didn’t think any more of it and got to talking to myself, until I actually got to the scale and seen it open. Then it was “oh ####” time, and had to decide in the space of about 1 1/2 seconds to either risk an accident trying to squeeze over at the last instant or keep going.

Hey, if the sign says closed it's closed!

Illinois makes it a bit of a PITA to get around most of their scales but I don't have time for their b u ll s h it, or Indiana for that matter.

Back when I was still running paper, I was trying to slip from a shipper in suburban IL to the Petro in Monee. There was some scale on 80 I didn't want to risk so I drove local roads to avoid it.

Even though I had all the time in the world, it was such a pain with the broken concrete, constant stop lights, and slow traffic, that I'd never bother again.

twice but both due to prepass screw ups . took that trooper 5 miles to catch me . only to find out I was legit ( green lighted ) . was pulling a Billboard tanker of the customers , and they didn't see the name on the door .

these my neck of the woods , Hve to be carefull as many of the roads in Will county are class II or III and strictly enforced , when I delivered fuel to the farms I often would get tickets from the DOT officer for over weights or length and drug to the scales on 57 or 80 , only to have the judge throw it out of court as it was FARMing related and I was exempt .
