I fall in the guidelines they use to call for a sleep study. I was borderline in the past but I am now over 50 and that tipped the scale, so to say.....
The DOT has NO regulations regarding this. This is strictly the places doing DOT physicals. They will blame the DOT but it isn’t them. CVS is who got me. I went through the whole process before I educated myself to the whole racket. I did my ‘rephysical’ at the urgent care associated with my primary care. They knew about my sleep study since I did it through them. Made the process easy.
I don’t regret going the route I did. I could have went and got a second opinion at a Chiropractor that would have passed me for a 2 year med card. I have a one year now.
Sleep apnea is REAL. The way they have targeted drivers is a real scam....but I’m glad I found out.

So is it still the case that you can’t drive for 30 days while you adjust to the machine???

Now in 6 months schedule your appointment for the sleep doctor. If your lucky you can see them before your med card expires.

i had a apap for a whole year with a 2 year card. i signed up for it when company offered it free of charge. i didnt start getting a 1 year card until i went for my renewed physical.
-
Never has been the case.
Just go to a place that doesn't require that scam. It's never been a dot requirement, no matter how much fmcsa wants it to be. -
Which is why these doctors should not be able to hold your med card from you. It’s BS.
Reason I was asking is because I have to take another DOT physical for a new job, even though I had to have one for trucking school. That place gave me a 2 year card. But I’ve been losing weight but my BMI is still high and I’m afraid this other place will force me to take a sleep study. I sleep fine, etc. no issues.
Just don’t want to get burned out of a new job because of a doctor that hasn’t no idea about me decides in 15 min that i “need” a sleep study. -
A sleep doctor can say you don't need it or a sleep test and prove you don't need CPAP. If you have less then 5 Events per hour you don't need a CPAP. If you have more then you would need a CPAP generally. They have some pretty cheap home test you can get today from what I hear v.a full sleep lab

My main concern is not being able to drive for 30 days while I adjust to it. Idk if that is true but I’ve heard that before. But I’m local and won’t be out of state so idk if that changes anyting

If you do need a CPAP, you will be able to drive. They will give you a 90 day medical card. During that time you have to show that you have been compliant. (70% 4 hours a day) Bring back your 90 day report showing compliance and you will get a 1 year medical card.kemosabi49 Thanks this.
