what were they doing though? Bet cellphone in their hand or texting and driving played a part in it!

Dumb question, but... how does one know if the is a forward or driver facing camera? Are they always visible in the upper windshield area?

 

The company should tell you when they install them or at orientation. It's hard to tell as all the cameras I know of have a lenses facing both ways. The company has the option of using the driver faces lenses or turning it off.
In our case they told us they were installing them and gave us a violation points sheet that included things like covering the driver facing lens.

 

Repeated following too close, failure to react fast enough, eating while driving, cell phone(of course) and reading texts, seatbelt non use, taking turn too fast, leaving roadway or lane misuse, brake stabilization activation(freightliner), tandem slides, etc. Basically anything to make it look like safety is doing a stupendous job and keep driver turnover going so as to keep labor cost down.

 

Seen a lawyer advertisement this morning about letters they send to companies involved in an accident. Saying we know what evidence you have basically. See I have always believed the cameras are a way for the company to reduce their liability in an accident by shifting more blame to the driver.

Usually doesn't work as the driver is a paid agent of the trucking company although the driver will be sued also. It is, however, a great selling point to the trucking companies from the camera companies. I still think the trucking companies are more interested in firing drivers to bring in cheaper labor. Graduated pay scales encourage this.

 

A Schneider recruiter told our class recently that they only had forward facing in their fleet.

Of course, the last thing he said to us is “don’t believe what I say, do your own research.”

 

Dynamic transit has hood mirror cameras ostensibly for “side views”, but you have to wonder if that has a view of the driver included.
