Try a used century class — they have a decent track record and it’s Freightliners or was Freightliners flagship truck.

Unless it’s old, I’d look for a good Truck, 2017 or newer, Detroit engine. Just my opinion, everyone’s got one.

Look into buying from Penske or Ryder. The rank them based on quality so you know what your getting into. Usually great prices for 200k miles on up. Most of they're trucks are from top carriers who's lease is now over. Meaning that Penske themselves always worked on tractor because a lease agreement comes with warranty.

Having worked for companies that leased from both of these, I can say I would never buy one. They are not always worked on by them. Even when they work on their own trucks they do the absolute bare minimum. Getting them to fix things is ridiculous. They get run into the ground. Make sure you get the truck looked over by a reliable shop before you buy one.

If by cheap you mean relatively inexpensive, I would recommend a Freightliner with a DD15, preferably pre-DEF. I've had nothing but problems with DEF so I don't consider those reliable.

I've had two trucks with Cats in them. Definitely not cheap to fix. I should have learned my lesson on the first one.

I drove a Pete with a Cummins. Fun truck, but I wasn't in it long enough to judge reliability.

I drove a '99 Century for a guy, 500 Detroit, 13, 3:55, had almost 900K and never opened up. Don't go the "fleet" route though, get something with some power. I swear, that 500 Detroit, even with a million miles on it, would roll down and up loaded 70 mph in 12th, no problem, 13th was the "trouble gear", that truck would go 90 I bet. Again, you want a truck to just run and throw away, the Freightliner is your best bet. If interested in resale, Pete or K-Whopper.
