How do you know that the transmission is used and cheap?

Edit. I just realized it must be the price.

Ok thank you for that ill get the clutch adjusted at the dealer. About the transmission, (how) does the transmission being used and cheap affect the clutch?

Now I remember the reason the transmission was replaced. The shifter was getting really sticky... it became very hard regularly to get in and out of gear. The recommendation for this problem was to get the transmission replaced, and fix the clutch.

I believe you have an underlying problem that no one is picking up on. The forks can get worn down 2 or 3 ways. (1) The driver rides the clutch and doesn't take his foot off the pedal. (2) The clutch isn't kept adjusted and is run without any free play causing the fork to be always against the throw out bearing.(3) The throwout bearing isn't greased often enough and doesn't slide on the input shaft the way it should.
As far as the clutch not lasting it can be the result of buying reman clutches and not new. There are many other possible causes. The truck needs to be looked at by a competent mechanic.

    2. My understanding is that the clutch here is self adjusting, does that mean there is no way to adjust it? I know of a mechanic that my fleet manager trusts with over 50 trucks so I think hes competent, although he doesnt speak great english. Ill definitely ask him to adjust this one. Or find someone who can.
    3. Is the throwout bearing something that is greased frequently with normal PM service? Ill also ask them about this.

Let me restate the initial symptom that led to the mechanics recommendation of a clutch replacement, followed by a question.

When temperature outside reached about 20 degrees. The clutch suddenly gave out, and then hours later when things warmed up, it worked again.

By "gave out", i mean i pressed the clutch pedal, got in gear, and then released the clutch pedal slowly, and nothing happened.

Could this be an improperly greased throwout bearing?

Is the clutch hydraulic or air operated?? If so I would be looking at that side of the system since you said it stopped working when cold.

Hydraulic. Having it taken in today or tomorrow. The minor slippage occurs in any temp. It was very cold when the truck didn't move. Definitely seemed related to the temperature

    Hydraulic...
Do you think that could have gotten frozen up?

    Update,

I took it to a local mechanic with good marks from my friends in trucking at home. He showed me that the fork was loose, like very loose, and the adjuster bolt was jammed so he could not adjust it. He took out that clutch and discovered it was a 1750 flb rated clutch... he recommended a 2050 flb rating and at 860 got it in, from eaton. (The 1750 was $1291 from shady mcgee).

First question is, should shady mcgee mechanic be able to tell me what flb rating my trucks clutch should be, and did he just doom my clutch to slipping if he installed a 1750 when it should be a 2050?

Question. If my linkage is bad, can that tear up a clutch quick?

I have no idea, what the problem is, but from the pics as ridgeline said, it looks like they didn’t replace the pressure plate, I doubt they replaced the clutch at all. That would explain everything. Since new clutch comes with new pressure plate. You heard the seller agree to it, yet he sold the Truck. You bought the Truck. Everyone else agreed it needed clutch. By the looks of that Pressure plate, clutch and forks, none of it was replaced. 1750 lb clutch was original, 2050 is a good upgrade. I put one in mine. Never a slip. It must have something to do with slave cylinder or whatever they call it. Linkage, and motor mounts are very important for proper operation. The black shavings could be anything, grease, or Probably friction pad material. That clutch wasn’t bad enough to slip. Pressure plates chewed up, but pads still have material. It shouldn’t slip, till pads are all but gone. The problem from the beginning, and still is more than likely in the linkage/ hydraulic system, not releasing. Unless it’s a self adjusting clutch, I think it needs to be properly adjusted, regardless of it being a hydraulic linkage. I’m no expert, wish I knew more. Just some ideas. You don’t want to burn up the new clutch. You got a good one now. Should last a million miles. No way you put that much wear on pressure plate and forks in 40 k miles. Even if you had your foot resting on the pedal the whole time. Don’t ever do that!!!!! Good luck, get the hydraulic linkage replaced or bad parts replaced and adjusted, after They make sure the clutch is properly adjusted. Make sure the motor mounts and Cab mounts are good. Everything needs to be in its proper place, and stay there. Once it’s right, periodic adjustments should be all that’s ever needed.
