Torque 'em to 100. Then torque
"Tighten the bolts to 100 ft lbs, then set it to something like 90 degrees. Start turning it until it flashes 390 ft.lbs and note the registered angle. Repeat it on a few bolts to get the spread, and you'll have your answer."
You have that wrench? You could have told me that the next time you turn torque to yield bolts, you would record the angles for me.
Instead, we have 6 pages of dogpiling and clowning.
Great mechanics here, eh? -
Most I do are torque, then turn. Torque to yield is usually mostly a single use bolt. Wait, I just did it for you. I torqued the bolt to 390 ft/lb, then turned it 0 degrees. Anything else us useless mechanics can do for you?Rideandrepair, blairandgretchen, 1951 ford and 5 others Thank this.

Man, you ain't funny.
You're childish, but not funny. -
Re-read this whole thread and ask yourself who is being knot-headed and childish. You have been given the correct answer multiple times, yet you want to imply those responding are the ones who are wrong. Good luck getting any advice on this forum in the future.swaan, PE_T, OLDSKOOLERnWV and 6 others Thank this.

The time you have spent putting people down in this thread who are trying to help, you could have had the bolts torqued & the oil pan on.
swaan, PE_T, Rideandrepair and 10 others Thank this. -
What y'all have is a cozy, fuzzy club, and I don't fit in.
All I wanted was information on torque and turn, and all I've heard is that it can't be done on a Detroit.
Most of the responses have been, USE A TORQUE WRENCH USE A TORQUE WRENCH!
How many times do you people need to hear that I know what a torque wrench is and that if I wanted to use a torque wrench I would use one.
I came here to find information about an alternative method.
Information! That's what I wanted.
One fellow posted information relevant to my inquiry.
I followed through on it and learned something.
Now I know that a torque and turn method can be used on Detroit main bearings as effectively as on Caterpillar main bearings.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
And with that, we’ll wrap this one up.PE_T, Rideandrepair, Roberts450 and 8 others Thank this.
