How do owner operators set up hauling jobs? Do they sign on with several dispatchers? Or listen out and just see what's available?

If u leased on to a company then ur company should have a load board , dispatchers, agents, or let u work off the internet load boards, or a combination of all the above. If u have ur own authority , some guys will work with direct customers , some guys run spot market freight. Depends wat u wanna do

All you have to do is buy a truck. The freight will find you.

Like any business you need the following
    • Have a service or product to sell - Yours is trucking.
    • Locate and identify customers who will buy said product and services
    1. You can locate your customers on load boards such as DAT, or Truckstop
    2. Find Brokers who are willing to work with you for a % of the cost to find you loads
    3. Go directly to shippers and manufactures and negotiate your own contracts thus eliminating any middleman involvement
    4. Lease your equipment and services to a Licensed carrier as a subcontractor for a set % or mileage rate. Allowing them to handle all admin, licensing, insurance and registrations for a fee
    • Get your DOT/MC authority and insurance and become a carrier - thus keeping all revenues negotiated and earned

Just passing by and D.Tibbitt Thank this.

Rule #1 loads are on the boards for 1 reason. Because nobody wants it. Lease to a carrier with contract loads till rates come up or lower you op cost in order to afford cheap spot market freight. PBJ should be in every truck .

Rule #3. If you are always crying about rates being low while others are doing just fine then maybe you are doing something wrong.
