The insurance company might give you the opportunity to match whatever salvage bid they get for the truck.
You might also be able to include in the claim, storage for the truck until it is sold.
May be you can trade the cost of storage for the truck, for payment to buy the truck

 

it's possible I suppose, a dead short like that would definitely be seen on your voltmeter or amperage meter. it might just have been barely touching the bared wire causing it. it was like mine went full retard, never noticed anything odd that day while driving.

 

I'd wait a see what they are going to pay you for your truck first. Don't forget about the deductible. Let them show their cards first.

 

Agreed. Your doing them a favor. They own a burnt up truck, not you.

 

As everyone else said, engines junk.
Only thing that looks good on the truck is the rear clip.

 

Scrap price for a truck (at least when I looked it up a couple years ago) was about $2,500 cdn. You'd probably get about $2,000-$5,000 for the rear clip depending on mileage, diff models and suspension type.

 

I’m just curious at what temperature you think zinc melts at?

 

787.2 degrees F. I'm not really smart enough to know that, so I googled it!
