Just so it's out there, I run a stock Cobra 29 LX and I'm intending to keep it that way. I don't want to have to open up the radio and chance someone butchering it just so I could put on an Italy amp.
-
It is the "italy" amp that you need a bigger wire. That's where I was going. See it is better to just do it once and have the flexibility than to have three or four attempts to get it right with other equipment.
By the way, I hope you fused the battery end of the power. -
Yep. As close as we could get.
-
My father in law builds power supplies for RC airplanes for fun. He's a retired electrical engineer.
-
For just about any amp, don't you have to open the radio up and turn down the output power there?
-
not all the time, depends on the amp.
Most of these clowns that work on radios for a living tune the radio for the amp, they get in there and monkey with it but all that has to be done is one resister added to lower the power going into the final, boom it is done.
BUT seeing your father-in-law is a retired engineer, then I would tap him for some ideas for an amp. -
Meh. Although he'd probably do just fine, the following video has just reconvinced me that I don't need to mess around with amps. This is the best video I've seen about amps.
-
Yeah, no need for a "Linyeeer" LOL. Those that need to hear ya (the yard ops guy, the guy ahead of you about to lose a strap, the guys behind you that you are warning about the "smokey") can hear ya just fine on 4 watts.
