I hope you're not going around identifying yourself as a "poorly trained ex-swift" driver. You might as well say you just got off a boat from China and then cough loudly.
Maybe try some smaller companies or a O/O on Craigslist who might take a chance on you.

Really, the school I attended not affiliated with swift was really good with an amazing instructor. The training I received while with swift was severely inadequate in comparison.
Did i learn things while doing my training at swift? Yeah i did. Did i have guidance while contending with nor’easter snow storm. Yep! Was i trained on how to operate a semi, Use the sat comm... yes sir.
But.... I wasn’t trained on life on the road. I wasn’t trained on how to do an actual pre trip, that was skipped completely even though I requested it. Nor was I trained on managing my hours or planning trips. And worst thing, I wasn’t trained to be a company driver.
My trainer was a lease O/O, that quite frankly didn’t need to work every day financially. That was on an account for FedEx or ups, cant remember which. So most stops were drop and hooks. And the times we had to bump docks... well another driver thought i was the trainer, because mine just couldn’t get it in there. Luckily my instructor at school made sure we knew how to back.
i was trained on how to do the job, not live it. And worst yet what to correctly do when you fub up. Luckily I was wise enough to not repeat some the things I was “trained”. Once solo i lost out on a lot of money and had do a #### ton of self learning.

There are very large flaws with industry in training in general. Ive had trainers who could not be bothered for anything. It would have way better for me to GTFO that truck and get one of my own. I don't learn anything with them. Because they do not teach a #### thing and having a trainee is in the way of their making money. Like having to baby sit children in a way.

I have had several trainers early on in this industry who were very good. One was expert. Her teachings are valid in bulk tanking cement trailers today, I can touch a tanker and have it unloaded in a hour or less no problems. Thats how good her training and teaching was. Its been about 23 years since I unloaded one give or take. You never forget.

The problem is there are only a few trainers like that.

I was a trainer myself a time or two. Generally just to see if so and so is any good at being taught anything. If not, they are deposited back at the drivers room and told to wait for instructions while the company decides what to do with them. (Usually sent them home) There is usually one bad apple in every group. However the hardest training I ever did was with my wife. If you understand marriage then you know sometimes wives do not listen to what they are either being told or taught. So that was interesting. She was a good student but somewhat flawed in small parts of trucking. Which I suppose could be learned on her own if she went that way (She didnt. She was found to have health problems from being on the road alot and we had to stop it to prevent a tail spin into much much bigger health problems.) Training included what she will have to know when I run into say a prostitute who asks me directly to my face in her hearing range or sight for a date or a good time for example. In other words I tried to teach everything I know. But there was not enough time for that. A year is too short.

She did however get to go everywhere and do everything such as western mountain ice and so on. As a student one of my jobs was to learn what weaknesses she had. And I found a few. For example running out of Las Vegas towards Reno through the rock and flats of nothing she pulled up at the Hawthorne west coast munitions base and said thats enough of this for today and hid in the sleeper. Those wide open empty spaces hurt her a little bit. So you learn things with someone if you run long enough with them.

One trainer discovered I did not like heights or mountains. Well by the time he got through with me I was mountain and high places happy. Evolved into something else later in life that if I was not on a mountain I am bored silly. Throw in ice and raging storms and it's even better. Anyone can drive across say Kansas. But not everyone can try to get something through the Sierras in a storm. (Which isnt that wise believe it or not...)

In the end trucking is what you make of it. I try to have a good day or night being a night runner most of the time. Even today it's 3 am and Im rolling along nicely. Which is not what society would accept most of the time.
