Education is an individual accomplishment. Some people with PHDs cannot tie their shoes. I drove from 1992 - 1996 and learned that carriers east of the Mississppi paid more than carriers west of the Mississippi. So seeked carriers east of the Mississippi with freight lanes near Colorado. Whether Shield out of Medford, WI closed their Loveland, CO plant and needed a driver to cover Denver and the front range. Since most other drivers hated Denver the deal was I could be home every night until I got south of Denver then I slept in the truck. I peddled windows from Ft, Collins to Pubelo Mon-Fri, picked up pallets in Denver on Friday for SLC, UT, left Sunday night for Ft Bridger, WY where I swapped trailers with a driver out of Logan, UT to start peddling windows Monday in Ft Collins. I made a little over $50,000 a year in 1993. Mileage pay was .32 cents a mile with $10 per stop. Of course when a stop was a full trailer load it sucked, but you took the good with the bad as a one window stop was also $10.
O/O is a hugh responsibility, why accept it if you cannot make money. I am willing to bet there are some company drivers that make more than O/O after expenses. O/O are currently over glorified company drivers that are abused by the cut throat operations that charge every thing they can to the O/O and not allow O/O to make a decent living.
Some O/O's have managed to obtain their own authority and went on to have successful trucking companies, many have not.
Find your niche and do your best as safely as you can. Don't buy a truck if you have no idea how to make the business work.
So kajidono you want more government? The fact there are already state troopers sworn to uphold the law and as a result of the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP) their salary is split between federal and state is not a good thing? You want the FMCSA to be a stand alone agency and hire 20,000 inspectors/agents? Gee I guess your tax bill is too low and you want higher taxes.
Seems white man speak with forked tounge.
Don't get sucked in in the excitment of the moment. Put some thought into the consequences of the federal government doing all of its own inspections. The roads would be clogged with LEO as the troopers would be out stopping speeders.
Wake up and smell the coffee.
Be safe.

Uh no, they obviously do enforce them by using the state DOT's. You know that. You posted claiming that you didn't know what I meant by "they" then detailed out how well you knew exactly who they were. Then you implied that since the feds do not enforce the rules they set out directly that somehow meant that I could not blame them in any way for the rules. Unable to comprehend what I say, like I said.
You also say that the rules are working and then say that the new hoard of rules are a good thing. Well if the rules are working then why do we need even more rules? Or are they not working? Pick one. Also, more rules is more government, is it not? In that case, you are the one supporting more government.
And you ignored my point about speeders. Should they be pulled over or should they continue abusing truck drivers to steal more money while not enforcing laws that apply to everyone? Because that is what is going on now. -
Be safe. -
Yeah, so can the DOT. You know nothing about my current or past companies and have no proof that they weren't threatened. I have plenty of proof that LEO's make wild accusations and threats on a regular basis, having seen it first hand or been the one being threatened. So don't tell me you magically know more about what I have seen for myself.
I never said my company was shut down, learn to read or at least stop trying to twist my words. Go back and read what I said again till you figure out what I was saying, not what you have decided I was saying before you read it.
So what about my last post? You're not going to answer any of that? Or is it that you can't come up with anything? -
Im a werner driver also. The QC updates every :08, :23, :38, :53, and if you cross into another zip code. If I get stuck in traffic when the clock flips over it will bump me to line 4. This is not a log violation but i do have to send a correction before the end of the day to have it fixed. Rather a pain in the ##### but we are used to it i guess.

I have been with my Co for 4yeras and avg 11,000 miles per month +- and scared to death those day are coming to a end. Can anyone tell me if they lost or gained miles when there Co switched from Paper to paperless logs.

I cant do that now... cant go that extra few miles to a particular truck stop... have to stop at an earlier truck stop so as not to get a violation
