Jaws of life were needed to remove the seat cushion from the driver..

 

I don't like the idea of the engine block escaping. Something broke.

When engine blocks get escaped and start tumbling in a smash you want out asap.

 

One of the first to produce "plastic trucks"? Stuff would just bounce off them?

 

Glad the driver survived. As it could have been much worse.

 

Well,that one is junk now. The Cummins might still be good though. As for the van,can’t tell if it was a Mercedes Sprinter or a Dodge Ram van(the front end is practically telescoped in itself). Car hauler is gonna be paying big money (load securement issue possibly).

 

Car hauling is serious business. I use a safety chain for the "What if's;" sometimes two.
One simple safety chain could have possibly stopped this, or would buy time to get it out of travel lane.
Don't know if it was auction cars or not,
but have seen some operators working auction lots in a big hurry, and just hook and book. Bad JUJU.
Really don't think car haulers use extra safety chains, either.
Not picking, just an observation.
A responsible operator has just good basic tie-downs.

I towed a 10,000 lb. dump truck once and was not happy with the way it was riding, like top-heavy
and trying to tip over on corners. I put two chains and binders over frame and down to my frame,
and alternately ratcheted them down, until it compressed the springs into a neutral position.
Rode like a dream after that.

 

There is so much junk running around these days hauling cars, slant decks with units barely strapped on, that kid up in NH that killed all the bikers. That segment of the industry has really taken a hit. That never would have happened in the era of Anchor Motor Freight or Kenosha Auto Transport.

 

Wonder if theyll try to blame the driver who was hit by the flying suv ???
