Nope, I'm just a CB operating ham who happens to agree with MOST of Gadflys factual commentary on the illegal operation of CB's and linears. Note I only said MOST... I definitely disagree when Gadfly goes off on his opinions and hatred rants but I agree with the rest of his message.

I began in CB and I haven't forgotten where I come from. I believe that laws are there for a reason and think that those who boast and brag about thier illegal radios and linears are definitly in the wrong and therefore need to be spoken to. Gadfly does a fine job in this most of the time. 99% of the time I keep my mouth shut as you can see by searching this part of the forum.

I just have a problem with folks who attack someone in a misguided manner such as the original poster.

Well you have that right, as we all do to our own opinion. I happen to agree with the original poster as I see his original post no different and less disrespectful than Gadfly's post when he goes on rants about hating truckers and illegal cb'ers and "chicken banders" blah blah blah. That's my opinion. I guess we can just agree to disagree. :biggrin_25519: I do not need to search your post because all the ones I have read I have had no problems with. If you disagree with someone you simply state why and move on unlike the one this threads about, that thinks he has to go on and on telling someone how the FCC is gonna come down on them. I respect people for standing up for what they feel is right if they do it in the right manner. I have no respect for someone who just acts like they are GOD or the LAW and that they are the only one who knows anything. If someone chooses to break the law by using illegal radios and amplifiers who cares. If they get caught it's their arse not anybody elses. Thats just my opinion.

I never referred to a person in particular.
You can take my freedom of speech and twist my words any way you like.
I used the term Gadfly as a type of person. If you wish to take my words and point them to a particular person that is your choice.
I tried very hard to not make it a personal attack.
Like i did refer to a definition of a gadfly.
The person on this message board chose his handle himself and I totally respect his right to speak his peace but lighten up.
If you were compare my definition of a Gadfly in comparison to his obvious hatred for CBers I would think he has far surpassed my attempt at a bit of humor. There is a definite hatred on his part and there was none on mine.
So if the CB haters here can't take a joke I can't help ya. Reread my post and then read all of the posts by Gadfly and i don't even come close.
There are many message boards on the subject of the CB radio and I rarely see posts about how do I get my CB radio to go to the ham bands.
Most just want to make there radios work better that stock.
Ya some want an amp and a power mic to be able to talk to the big strappers without being called a mud duck, so what. How does that hurt the hammy's.
I came across a radio a long time ago that could easily be tricked out to talk on the 10 meters but it's never crossed my mind. I have a scanner that picks up some hammy bands and they are boring, real boring.
So for those that I offended I apologize but only a lil bit.

I have to agree. :yes2557: I know that my radio is considered an "export" and it can apparently hear some ham bands, but I can think of only one time that I actually went a band or two of channels higher than the regular 40 and it was dead. I didn't hear anybody talking and I don't recall saying anything.

I don't do it. Not because I am scared (because I personally think it's hilarious) and not beacuse i'm "not supposed too" but because I don't NEED to. What I'm saying is this, I have no interest in being a ham operator. I think it's kind of a joke, especially when people like some of the people on this board take it so seriously and then go off on a tangent about it just because somebody says the word "linear" or "amp" or "peak" or "tune".... What kills me is this, when the people on this board are talking about those things... they are referring to a CB radio. So, why make a deal about it? It's not a ham radio and just because their radio might have the ability to travel above or below the regular 40, doesn't mean that person is going to use it. So, actually all of this doesn't even concern ham operators... It's just funny and if you don't like it, then don't use a CB, and if you don't use a CB.. then GET OVER IT BECAUSE WE DON'T CARE AND WE ARE ALL LAUGHING AT YOU!!! :biggrin_2559:

:biggrin_25523: gadfly is just stating the law period. it is up to you to decide if you wanna follow it. just like its up to the RADIO POLICE to decide if they wanna enforce it. DUH!!!!

it is just common sense. dont hate him just because he states the law and his mind.

    Excellent post.

I have one of "tham thar exports wit tham thar extree channels" but the only band I run on/have used so far is the one that covers the 26.965 to 27.405 MHZ band.

I will admit I flipped to the other bands and went thru some of them just bird dogging....but it was just dead air.

I do also have a freq counter which helps me realize where I'm at on the band.

I personally don't care if someone gets their radio peaked and tuned....if they want to spend their money then let them. As long as they don't let someone like Radioactive radios do their "super hack crap" mod....and it doesn't bleed all over my radio/TV/phone....and even then I don't care if you let them super crap hack your radio just know now if it's bleeding all over everything, then don't use it around me...not all CB shops mess up your radio.

And I don't care if someone uses a linear, as long as they don't start infringing on my radio/TV/phone. But sometimes a linear is needed....yes I know "if we got rid of all the linears" it would quiet down the band enough to where no one would need one...I don't think that's exactly true...while linears might add to the problem somewhat, there's other things that cause electrical interference which increases the has (or white noise) coming from the radio. And you're not going to be able to "just eliminate all the linears and anything else that causes the interference that prevents long conversations from being had." It just doesn't work that way.

I can understand someone wanting to alert us that those "extree channels" are not authorized for us to unless licensed....but to assume everyone with an export radio/linear amp/peaked and tuned radio is some sort of a bad guy/red neck/hillbilly is just not right...and IMO according to some of Gadfly's posts, that's how he feels.

And I also understand some people just flip a big bird to whatever ham says "you can't be using those channels"....the ones that ignore the hams...they're not right either.

Funny thing is since we've been talking about Gadfly I've not seen him post....well maybe I've just jinxed us...or maybe he's reading this and taking a hiatus...

    FIRST .....

Anyone who thinks HAMS want 11 meters is just not thinking in the real world .... IF the FCC closed CB today it would take 50 years for the radios already sold to go away ......

If in the 1970's they had open class E CB on 220 mhz and made the radios cheep enough there might have been some hope of making that work ... BUT .... All you have today is MURS VHF CB ..... ( 151.82, 151.88, 151.94, 154.57 and 151.60 MHZ ) which works well but BY FCC RULES you cant build into a CB radio .... talk about STUPID ...... WHY NOT ???

The problem with CB is not the CBers it's the FCC .... You make rules then for 50 years you don't enforce them ...... As for rednecks ....GOLLY ... gove a lissen on 75 meters and you will think your on CH 19 and everyones drunk.... it's that bad.

I work at a JAIL ..... and see those who don't care about others rights ..... well can you even think how bad it would be if we had the level of enforcement on the streets of our citys that the FCC is doing on the CB band ...... Heck LOCK AND LOAD ....

    Cleaning up CB .....

Well I could be done but how and at what cost ? How would you change a system that is built on disreguarding all rules ? .... Yea .... I know we will send all the cb ers to FCC rules school ...... TOO LATE ..... that's not going to fly. Fact is the FCC KNOWS there is no way out and is not even looking for one not even on those " EXTRA CHANNELS " UNLESS ...... you cross the 28MHZ parrell ...... AKA Go in the 10 meter band they don't even try to catch you.

    Just my 2 cents

A person who uses the law and his knowledge of a certain subject to talk down to others in order to belittle them is the one who is misguided. I have read his posts here and on about 4 other forums and it's all the same,he is not trying to help anyone. He is only on these forums to make himself feel better about being an angry..spiteful little man!

You seem to have a problem with a spade (gadfly) being called a spade (gadfly) but you dont have a problem with that spade (gadfly) spreading a message of ignorance and hatred on more than just this one web site. Which speaks volumes about your opinion on the subject. He only lives to fan the flames of this stupid argument just because he gets a kick out of it! An individual such as this does little to shine a positive light on the ham radio Hobie!

The bad thing is that he is much worse than what you see on these webs site, he spreads this same type of hatred on the ham bands as well! He even enjoys riding around Gastonia NC getting tag numbers and truck numbers in order to turn them into the FCC! Yes he is very well known around these parts. A man like that really needs to get a life rather then one that revolves around a hatred of all things and people he find substandard!

People who do not like being called an ### should not act like one in the first place!
