Buying a used emission truck is a huge gamble unless you have the money to go through everything before you even put it on the road. Go through the service manual and do everything that was supposed to be done by whatever mileage is on the truck unless you know for sure it’s been done.
If you buy a new truck then do what the manual says and at the mileage it says. I work with some guys that our shop basically had to make them follow the manual. They didn’t want to do this or that because their truck was running fine. Well if you want it to keep running then do it. If it says to put a new filter on the DEF tank at 300k then do it. Stuff like that keeps little things from compounding into big things.
At the end of the day fuel costs money. I’d be curious what they’re true 90 day average is on this truck. The fuel surcharge is based on 6mpg so the farther you can get on the other side of 6 the more money you put in your pocket too.
And tweaking coworkers about their fuel economy is a hobby of mine. Went on vacation in January and was down in Mexico. I got all of the usual “must be nice” comments. I told them all I was doing was spending the difference in our fuel cost and after Mexico I still had another $12k to spend on more vacations this year. LolRideandrepair, feldsforever and Crude Truckin' Thank this. -
It’s nice that gas prices in Texas are under $2 a gallon and diesel is going for $2.39 right now. Makes that drive down to ‘Ol Mex much easier.
Yet people still cry about fuel mileage killing them like it was still 10 years ago. Lol.Rideandrepair, Rubber duck kw and Cabinover101 Thank this. -
People are bragging on their fuel mileage like fuel was 4 bucks a gallon not 2.60.Rideandrepair, AModelCat and SmallPackage Thank this.

Money is money. My fuel cost for the last 90 days is .42 a mile but I still try and get the best mileage I can. I doubt there’s anyone here that would turn down $10k if someone handed it to them.Rideandrepair, Crude Truckin', Cabinover101 and 1 other person Thank this.

The larger the amount of money is at the bottom of the page the happier I am. I don’t care much about the amount of money at the top of the page. I’m greedy like that.Rideandrepair, Crude Truckin' and daf105paccar Thank this.

Why not? I used to get 6.3ish out of a b model pulling a reefer. An e model is electronic so should be much better than a b model on fuel.Rideandrepair, AModelCat and rank Thank this.

I'm the wrong one to pass out advice on mileage I'm running heavy and hard just about all the time..Isafarmboy, Rideandrepair, rank and 1 other person Thank this.

Nobody will buy it or take it on a trade? I call BSRideandrepair, exhausted379 and spyder7723 Thank this.

I'm guessing dealer offered 25 or 30k on it as trade and used the "banks won't finance it" line as an excuse for the lowball offer.Rideandrepair and rank Thank this.
