Hey you had a "typo" but I fixed it.Truemac and Rideandrepair Thank this.

I agree on that. I constantly have people asking how much it cost to put my truck in the shop with all the custom stuff done and it’s a blank slate when I say i do it in my yard. Could any of us with knowledge work on an emissions truck? Of course! For me it just isn’t worth learning because I have no interest in owning one.
The MPG debate is overplayed as well. “Dice” with his 3406 in a Volvo gets far superior mileage than most emission trucks I have seen. Sure Henry Albert runs a 10 mpg Freightliner, but a lot has to do with all the aerodynamics on that combo.
Either way I’d take my N14 any day if the week. Sure they have injector issues, but carry a spare and swap when it fails.Rideandrepair, rank, Final Drive and 4 others Thank this. -
Mpg has a much bigger influence in typical long haul van/reefer freight. I do a bunch of short haul and regional runs and very rarely hit 50k miles a year. Increasing fuel economy will have a very minimal effect in my operation.haycarter, Rideandrepair, Big_D409 and 2 others Thank this.

Does that include getting the counter notes done ?Rideandrepair and wore out Thank this.

Counter bores don't need done nearly as often as the dealers say they do. Most dealer mechanics don't even own a sled gauge to measure them. They just cut them and slap shims in. I'll measure and cut them if they need it, but im not cutting them just to do it. I'd estimate of the dozen or so 12 7 engines I've done, only 3 holes needed cut. The rest of the time sone elbow grease and emory cloth cleaned them up to spec.lynchy, Diesel Dave and rank Thank this.

Where are you located? I can volunteer for the 2 days inframe experiment ))Dave_in_AZ, Rideandrepair, Big_D409 and 2 others Thank this.

Side note I got the same stripes but honestly I’ll sacrifice mpg for my ride comfort and style. Once you go Classic it’s impossible to get into anything else. I own multiple trucks and hate them all. Other than the 2 w9s
Rideandrepair, Big_D409, FoolsErrand and 1 other person Thank this. -
Forum rules forbid me to solicit business for the shop. But any decent independent shop should get you in and out in two full days if everything is planned accordingly, parts on hand already ordered and the bay open ready to go when you bring in the truck at the scheduled time. And labor should run about 2500 for a basic inframe.Last edited: Feb 12, 2020
