being off duty at the hotel during orientation, needs to be thought of like : your in a interview, its part of the process. look at it from the company's point of view, if a potenial driver cannot leave the beverage's alone for even the lenght of a orientation duration what makes them believe he would'nt drink while under a load.
it is a unspoken rule too not drink at orientation. IMO...

DOT rules. No alcohol within 24 hours of on duty. Please tell me you know that with 20 yrs trking exp. And drunk drivers out there. Majority are GROWN men and women.
-
So much for the freedom of being an l/o.
Look, I'm not interested in banging on your company.
If this is a rule that guys agree to when they are hiring on then they need to refrain.
I simply disagree with the premise.
If a driver gets so sloppy and out of control that he causes problems, yeah he probably isn't right for your company. But what if I buy a 6 pack, sit in my room and watch t.v, bother no one and show up the next morning with nobody the wiser?
Your telling me you can trust my judgement to drive for you but I can't be trusted to have a beer or two at the hotel? -
Wasn't aware of that rule. Not argueing....just never heard of that.

Keendriver is correct. I had heard 12 before, but FMCSA says 4. Might be company rules that state 12 or 24, I'd check your handbooks to be safe. -
There are some who have a drink, and some that must drink.L.B. Thanks this.

.04 will make you DUI in a comercial vehicle. Any DETECTIBLE alcohol will put you OOS for 24 hours. How are you going to be doing a road test if you should be OOS?
-
I agree with the unwritten rule. You are staying in the hotel on their dime. Just don't drink. If you can't go 3-4 days with out a drink, I sure wouldn't hire you to drive a truck for me.
Alanp613 Thanks this.
