I have to agree with Gas Hauler. I drive the truck to live. I know alot of guys live to drive. The truck is just a tool I use to make money, Oh by the way I drive an auto and hate it. What I really like is sitting on the couch watching women aerobics competition on ESPN, drinking a cold beer

 

If you use this rational, "... or to perform any job is to make money.", then I would think you would choose something that pays more $$$ - Dr's, CEO, Airline Pilot, etc., if it is indeed all about making money that is.

Although making money is important, the choice of profession initially isnt just about making money. Many times, circumstances dictate.....

 

Yes those circumstances do dictate what you need to do in the interim. Just not for a long term goal. Again, you act like there are no truckers out there making decent money. I can assure you that you are wrong.

but I have a few quick questions

1) Does FFE have the BMI policy that Prime has? Hate to say it, but I would flunk that index. Kind of annoying, as most of my jobs have been VERY physical, and I never had any problems doing my job.

2) are reefer trailers 53'? look a little shorter to me, but I don't know the first thing about them. Do they give you some training on checking the cooling units, so you can be certain they are working properly?

Thanks for this thread, as it brought FFE to my attention. They look like a decent fit for getting into OTR, and now I will have another company to talk to about getting into orientation.

 

don't want to come off as confrontational, but equipment can be a factor. Example:

I was told by a recruiter that I would need to either go thru school again (financially, not an option for me at this time) OR get in touch when I have 3-6 months of verifiable OTR exp (not including any training time) AND I would have to be driving manual trans trucks.

So going to an outfit like Maverick or USA Trucking would mean nothing to this other company, because while it would be OTR, the auto trans would be of no use to me.

 

Funny I spent over 2 years at maverick and took a local with a 10 speed and then a OTR with a 18 speed. If you are not a brand new driver and have stick time it won't hinder you. A lot of co's don't know what co's have what tranny's. Your profile reads you have 2 years as a driver.

 

actually three years, local work in a day cab in NY/NJ/CT region- delivering mostly carpet. We had 9 spds. But that was about 14 yrs ago, and according to everyone I have been in contact with, it doesn't count for anything now. So I am basically looked at as a student.

again, this was just from a brief phone conversation with a recruiter, but I had the impression that if I did get a job with a well known carrier that used auto trans, I wouldn't be doing myself any favors. At least if I want to get a seat with the recruiters company.

perhaps the recruiter was just making a strong suggestion, and this isn't company policy.
