With so many non-lethal weapons available, why further escalate the situation by using a lethal gun.

With all the drivers cameras out there and security cameras I suspect there maybe some video to review.

A gun wasn't used to escalate the situation, it was used to end it. Best I can tell, the only mistake made was the cop was a few inches off.

The situation got escalated to the point the driver ended up in critical condition in a hospital, and for what? A reserved parking space? A lethal weapon should be a last resort, and not because a big 300-lb trucker is yelling at you and walking towards you. Pepper spray that guy, use a taser, rubber bullets,...We aren’t dealing with bank robbers.

If the trucker took a swing or assaulted the guard, well too bad. Maybe not try and beat up armed security guards. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

I don't think we are going to see eye to eye on this, and that's cool too. I respect your opinion.
I would prefer the rubber bullets, pepper spray, and tasers to be used on the guys washing their dishes in the fuel isle while taking a 30 min break.
The driver could have avoided laying in his own blood in a piss covered parking lot by simply moving on. Life is about picking your battles. He picked a bad one.

I had a run in once about 21 yrs ago,at Steel City I-94 exit 9, In Gary In. I was in clear violation of parking rules. It was no mistake, I pulled up in front, of the fuel island, that was under construction. I did it 2 or 3 times a week, always around 2:00 am. Run in grab a coffee and go. No harm done, employees had no problem with it. Until one morning, the Security Guatd tells Me to move my Truck, I ignored Her, finished fixing my coffee, paid and left. She followed Me out, along with a great big Guy, and asked to see my I.D.With Her Hand now on her pistol, She threatened to arrest Me for “ failure to show Identification”. I reluctantly handed it to her. She then went inside, returned with a letter for Me to sign. The letter, stated I was never to be on the property again. And that I understood I would be arrested if so. I refused to sign it. They refused to give Me my License back. That’s when the Gary In Police showed up. I had called them from inside my Truck, while getting my ID. They both were surprised. I stepped up, told them I had called. Explained they were holding my ID. The Officer asked Me, why not just sign the paper. I explained I’m not going to. I also said, whatever I’m guilty of, write Me a ticket, or whatever. But I want my ID back. They gave it back. I later called the Manager, he explained She was a gung ho off duty East Chicago I’ll. Police Officer,Moonlighting. They had a lot of complaints on her. He apologized, and invited Me back for a steak dinner, on the house. The Security Guard lost her job. I had been a customer for years, buying all my fuel there. Yet I almost got shot, at least handcuffed and brutalized, because I didn’t give the Security Guard the respect they demanded. I was wrong, in the first place, admittedly. But they were way out of line. No regrets here.

Nowhere during that story did you almost get shot or brutalized. Did this incident take place at the lunch counter of the Petro?

Well, I guess we’ll never know. But when an Officer/ Security Guard has their hand on their gun, and they’re obviously trying to assert their power over you. Might just get shot! When the real Cops showed up, they sure changed their tune, telling him there was no problem. That’s when I spoke up and said I called. My rights were violated, when they refused to give my License back. Like I told the Cop, give Me a ticket or whatever, but I want my License back, I’ve got to go. It’s a lame story, I know, but it’s true. I don’t trust People in Authority to always do the right thing. I’ve seen plenty in my life. Enough to not be Naive.
