    Hell even in a 13 speed I never split below 6. Exception being traffic and grades. You just really never are that heavy to need to. I only did it to save my shoulder and knee.

    It's all about the motor and gears. If you've got a 220 Cummins with 3.54's then 18 gears probably isn't enough gears. If you've got a 700 horse fire breather with 4.33's then you could probably get away without splitting at all.
