Hello all. I’ve been lurking here for a while but haven’t quite found the answer I need this time. A friend of mine has serial number 1LW10696. It’s current flash file is 192-5315. I believe it has 10R-0956’s in it. Is there a brake saver file or NON Low-NOX file to bump the power a little bit? It needs to stay safe for the turbo and pistons in this engine though. Thanks in advance for any help. By the way I have full access to dealer flash files if anyone ever needs any.

Need a little more help. Went to swap number 2 and 5 injectors this morning and found problems with the cam. Cylinder 4 exhaust rocker is pitted and cam lobe is damaged. He’s got to buy a cam anyway. Go back with factory or something else? Thanks in advance.

So in a little more than an hour you went from needing a flash file to swapping injectors and needing a cam. Take another toke and keep goin, anther hour and your going to need a complete rebuild. o_O

Yes sir. It was running rough a couple days ago. He dropped it off last night so I could swap the injectors. Pulled the valve covers this morning and found the cam. He’s been wanting to turn it up a little since he bought it. I told him there was no point until we swapped the injectors and got it right. What’s the point of turning up a 4.5 cylinder?

I’d really like to hear some opinions on a camshaft for this 1LW10696. I need to get one ordered tomorrow. Swapped the injectors yesterday and he says it’s just weak. ET says 374/434 HP and 1450/1649 TQ. Any thoughts? It’s got 90-95psi fuel pressure and it’s making 26-27psi boost using the service brakes to apply load. He’s got a few other trucks with 550hp C-15’s (MXS’s and NXS’s). I guess he’s kinda comparing apples and oranges but I would hate to miss an opportunity to add a little power since we have to change the cam anyway.

If you are planning on turning it into a 550 and sounds like it is a fleet truck I would use the 10r 3292 used in 455 HP up. 1LW had two iron sets, one below 450, and other above. The difference in higher HP motors was cam, injectors, turbo, and of course software. The flash for a 550 currently would be a 1925341, but 1573014 is the pre low NOx 550 flash. Of course, you need 10r 0957/10r8501injectors. On turbo the higher HP ran the 0r7223 wastegated turbo. For a stock 550 I would use the BW 177148.

Thank you. I’ll get it ordered today. I’ll see if we can locate a turbo too. I’ll look through parts ID and check pistons too I guess. Really appreciate the info. Is there any place to get reman rockers other than CAT?

Cylinder Packs are the same from your current HP all the way to 550 HP. Injectors will be the most expensive part of the re-rate, because the 56's flow about 15% less than 57's. Interstate McBee offers pin and roller kits and bushings. Machine shop would need to finish size the bushing for you though.

    SAR Thanks this.

I’ll have to go to CAT then. I only have two days to get the cam swapped for him. Thank you for the info. I thought I read on here there were different pistons for the low HP. Glad you could clarify that.

    Oxbow Thanks this.

Earlier Prefixes like 5EK used different pistons in low HP. Just have to verify on SIS and what is in the motor.
