Hey all,
I started otr trucking in 2012, so have plenty of experience, but have been off since February of 2021. Looking to come back in next couple months. I'm hoping I can just hop back into a truck and get to work, no training or refresher or anything.
Anyone know if this is possible, and who with? Interested in either dry van or tanker.
Not sure where to post this, so newbie zone it is.

Being off the road 9 years you are going to have to ride with a trainer for a few weeks at least. Not sure if you are looking for regional local or otr

I did it. However, I have nearly 30yrs of accident-free experience and everything is clean.
Here’s where I think you’re going about this wrong. You bring ~9yrs of experience to the table. If it’s clean experience, that gives you the upper hand over a new grad and anyone with less experience. Be confident. Don’t look for the suggested sure bet. Apply everywhere you think you might want to work. And, if you walk into an interview with that confidence, they’ll look the other way, should there be company requirements for more recent experience. A solid, experienced driver is highly desirable, these days. You bring a lot more to the table than you’re giving yourself credit for.dave01282000, tscottme, Chinatown and 2 others Thank this. -

Reading comprehension is something you must learn if you want to post a meaningful reply.
Did you even notice the title of '2.5 years off'...? -
Throw it back the other way.
If you were the employer and had a driver that had not driven for 2.5 years... What steps would you take to ensure that the driver was safe to let loose on the highway with your truck?
You want to get back into it like no time has passed, like nothing has changed.
But time has passed with you being out of the chair for so long, so you are rusty. -
@nickto21 --
If you still have an Ohio driver's license....and still want NO northeast (believe me -- I get it), and tanker--but no pumps....then I suggest you look into hauling fuel--but only WITH ONE OF THE PRIVATE FLEETS.
Check into possible local opportunities with Love's, Pilot/Flying J, Energy Dispatch (RaceTrac), etc.
With as much experience as you bring to the table--I think one of them would take an interest in you.
If you try fuel hauling for a while & decide you don't like it--based on that experience, you could then move into most any other tanker type job, later.
For the above: both tanker AND hazmat endorsements will be required.
