Can anyone guide me where to start on this issue. At first the tech was "lagging" and wouldn't really catch up to engine speed unless held at a certain speed. But only when driving. When ideling it worked fine if you revved it up. Now its just stuck on 1500. All other gauges work fine including Speedo.

Also the front of the ecm where all the plugs go into it is caked with grease and oil. What can I use to clean the connections with and is it ok to unplug them one at a time to clean.

Nothing else involved... Tach gets it signal from vehicle speed sensor.... if tach was broke it wouldn't move at all.... Sensor is 11 years old.... You could buy another tach... 100-150.00....

Do you have a Qualcomm? If so see if the it is reading rpms. If you dont have one have it put on a computer to see if it is reading rpms. If either one is reading rpms then the rpm sensor on the trans is working and it is the tac or a wire problem. If they are not reading rpms them start with the rpm sensor. as for cleaning the plug crc makes electrical cleaner
