Hey there need some advice looking to buy a 2008 Pete 330 Cummins my job will be working with a excavator ditching moving up as he loads me lots of idling and usually only hauling 1/4 mile will the emissions on this truck give me a lot of problems Thanks for any input.
Not really usually park the truck at job site but I could bring it home every night about 1/2 hour drive
Many pieces of equipment have diesels that idle all day without problems. Why should it be any different with a truck? Of course you’re going to be checking the oil twice a day. And changing it on time, along with fuel and oil filters. Don’t forget the cooling system too. I’m not familiar with what the emissions systems were on a 2008. What brand engine is installed? I don’t think they were using DEF back then. search the forum’s by engine brand and hp rating. You might find more info that way
Put it this way: you'd probably be better off with that baby Pete than a truck with a big bore emission engine.
2008 is the worst year of all for emissions..... and when you idle them a lot you are in for trouble.
My opinion, for the work you describe I would try and find a 2007 or older that way you don’t have a DPF to worry about.
Owning Cummins Insite and being handy with wrenches would be the only way I would even suggest this setup. The ISC seemed to be a never ending issue of replacing injectors, then replacing failed EGR and aftertreatment components.
