I use a puller I purchased at harbor freight. Probably about the same as what you have. I thinking mayby you steer wheel made slightly different? Just in case ..you do know after you get tension on your puller, and its trying to pull the wheel..give the puller a rap on the top of the large bolt you turning to put pressure, usually the puller mfg make it flat on top for that purpose. I see you said bolts were bending, so not getting a nice straight pull. With some pressure that rap on top may persuade it.

Doesn’t matter if it’s a pro star steering wheel or a peterbilt. They all come off the same way. I wouldn’t buy a dedicated steering wheel puller, I use a adjustable puller that works for many applications. Anyhow, if your bolts are bending as you say, then you don’t have everything squared up from the center. Those bolts that go into the steering wheel are small. Use grade 8’s and make sure you screwed in a good amount

Went to Auto Zone for a puller, around $6. I had a new steering wheel to install, so I took the steering wheel with me to Home Depot to get the proper threaded bolts to use in the steering wheel/puller. Remove the nut, I think I had to smack mine with a hammer to get it to budge. It came right off.

And if you smack with hammer, leave the nut on, you do not want to damage the threads on that shaft. And it was a light tap, used a ball pean hammer. A HARD rubber mallet would have also worked. Tap on the puller bolt too, as was mentioned above. No reason for it not to pop right off.

Most of the time you can pull a steering wheel off by hand.

I've pulled alot of Ford steering wheels off by hand.

I would suggest loosening up the bolt, (but do not remove) spray some WD40 or PB Blaster in the shaft area.

Grab the wheel by the 2 and 8 o'clock positions and start pulling up and slightly rocking it at the same time, repeat with your hands at the 11 and 5 o'clock positions.

It will eventually pop off the steering shaft, I've never used a puller before and always been able to pull a wheel off.

You talkin ford pickup or cars, never did one. But I can say for certain you will never pull a large truck steer wheel off by hand. If you do..it wasn't put on properly, or some cheap aftermarket wheel that don't fit properly to begin with. First of all the wheel and shaft are slightly tapered, so when the nut is tightened that wheel is on to stay.

not happening. i even had 2 pull my new steering wheel off again right after install to straighten the wheel. The nut pulls the wheel down on the shaft. bang and pull all you want. probably wind up bending steering wheel

thanks for the help guys, did a little bit of everything in the replies to get it off. dont know why the bolt holes are so small (1/4) or 5/16 but grade 8 bolt made the difference. since i had to use my whole 240 lbs on my 1/2 in ratchet to get this thing off. thanks again guys

Yeah they can be a pain. Impact gun on low setting works great if you have one.
