I've been driving it 3 weeks. Almost 400k miles. Im going to list them all off. Does anyone know what the culprit is?
- Marker lights always on when truck is on
- No lights at all on center panels (climate control, radio, ect)
- Radio light will toggle on when you use to "marker int" button on the steering wheel
- Power window control button lights on the doors are always on even when the truck is off and key removed
- 4 way flasher lights on dashboard will not show with the truck off, still hear the click, still work
- Cigarette lighter can not power my laptop. Lights and inverter will flicker (200 watt) works fine in my car.
- Two times, a single light in the sleeper came on and quickly shut off randomly while driving. Didnt touch anything.
- No marker lights or headlights if the truck is off
- A few occasions my headlights did not come on during pretrip. Turning truck off and on fixed.
- No engine brake, I think it works in cruise control. I don't know what its supposed to sound like
- Floor light button does nothing, do hear click
a more serious issue and maybe unrelated:
- if you turn the climate control fans off, you will get an error on the dash "activate hvac front blower". It will go away as soon as you turn the climate control fans back on. There is a button to control sleeper fan. If you lower that to zero, the error goes away. After some period of time, the truck will have trouble maintaining idle. Turning climate control back on instantly restores normal idle. Trying to reproduce this right now will post more info.

Marker lights always on, that could be programmed in
No lights in center, that is feed from the cluster. Possibly just a connector partially unplugged in behind or cluster locked up
Radio turns on with int button, light and ignition feed to radio crossed or shorted.
Power window lights, this is also powered from the cluster, cluster may be locked up.
4 ways not flashing. Cluster may be locked up
Cigarette lighter, suspect load shedding is kicking in
Light in sleeper, power comes from cluster, cluster issues continued
No lights if truck is off. Need to check programming, but this input comes from the cluster, more cluster issues
No headlights, bad headlight control board, or bad cluster, cluster locked up
Engine brake, could be programmed for cruise only. need to check programming
Floor light - check fuse F1-C for being blown, it's only 5 amps.
Climate control message in cluster is just an FYI, not a warning or fault message. It's just saying for the bunk ac to work properly, the cab must also be on. You can ignore this message if you like.
Idle problems, I would actually say something is wrong with the engine like an over fueling injector and the engine runs rough with no load, but once the ac kicks in and the engine has some load it seems to run smoother.
Over all, on any Prostar, when you have weird electrical problems, always disconnect main cab power from the batteries, or just disconnect the batteries to kill power to the cab for a couple of minutes. This will reset and cold boot both the body controller and instrument cluster and hopefully clear up those problems.warrior12345, tiddlytanker and QUALITYTRUCK Thank this. -
Took a look at the F1-C fuse since it seemed like the easy place to begin. Didn't look blown but I swapped it anyways with F1-B to test. Nothing changed with the floor light button but oddly enough there are fixes to other problems.
Markers lights are now off when you start the truck. You can turn them on but you cant turn them off again unless you turn the truck off.
Radio light is on now. You can still toggle it with the marker int button. Weird, ill see if i can cut power tomorrow in some daylight.
What is the floor light anyways? Lights on the bottom of the doors? They come on with the cab dome button.
It seems like the truck has a mind of its own. Stuff just randomly changes. Didn't have the problem with the power window buttons until later on. Never was able to reproduce the idle issues. I posted so much information thanks for taking the time to address every piece.Last edited: Aug 12, 2017

No problem. I love to tackle gremlins like this. The floor lights are just little accent lights, usually red in colour. One is located under your center console right in front of the shifter, and two more are located under and in the front of the bunk bed. The relay could be bad too, or simply they are all burnt out. Many times the one in the center console pops out and falls in behind or isn't reconnected when the console is removed to access the back of the engine.
The way the lights all work is like the keys on a keyboard. When you press a switch or button it simply sends a digital signal to the body controller to turn on that device. So if the button doesn't make proper contact with the micro switch or the actual circuit board is faulty, screwy things will happen. Many systems also work on grounds, so if the cab has dirty or poor grounding, stuff like this can happen too.Icyz Thanks this. -
can someone please HELP. This is my situation. As I am driving a consistent speed, all of a sudden there is a loss of throttle response. I lose power for about 3 to 5 seconds which drops my speed about 5mph. At the time I feel this occur, I try to turn on my cruise control and nothing happens. About 5 to 10 seconds later, the ABS and TC lights come on along with Amber triangle. It is during this time that I have no brake lights. Then sometimes 10 minutes later or 30 minutes, after repeatedly trying to turn on my cruise control.....low and behold, my cruise turns on. Now at this time, when cruise works....my brake lights work again. I have replaced brake light switch and everything worked normal for a day and a half.....then the intermittent problems started occurring again. This all started occurring approx a month ago when I was coupling to a trailer at work. Our yard was 2 ft feel with rain water and the areas that had no standing water was thick wet clay. I locked my PDL thinking i would have a better chance of not getting stuck. I was rather heavy on the rpms trying to free myself from the mud. At constant high rpm, it acted very strange by revving up then going to idle back and forth all the while i was aggressive in the accelerator. Later when I replaced brake light switch and all was working well for first 80 miles, I noticed a rapid blinking light on the PDL switch. This continued only briefly and I habe witnessed this flashing light only twice.....while the OLD switch is in the off position. One other note to add....During the scenario of dash warning lights, no cruise control and no brake lights...i will be driving a consistent speed of let's say 65mph. I let off the gas and immediately push the accelerator to the floor......my speed drops to about 60 mph before it gets any throttle response about 3 seconds later. I know this is perhaps many issues occurring, but this always happens in the sequence I described: lack of throttle response while driving at which time I can not turn on cruise, ABS and TC lights come on at which time I have NO brake lights. One other notation, my compass always says on dash that it needs declination and calibration. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I am driving a 2012 International Prostar with the N13 engine

Also I would like to add when the sequence of events occur that I described, when I turn the truck off and back on again, The ABS module does not finish it's start cycle properly. If I recall correctly it only clicks maybe 4 times. When all is working properly, it clicks 8. And of course when this situation occurs with no cruise, ABS and TC warning lights, and no brake lights......when I press the brake pedal the relay does not click in my fuse panel. I believe the relay for brakes are shared with turn signal lights but they work with no issues when this problem occurs.

Since these trucks are all computer controlled, I would not even begin to guess what is wrong without getting it scanned to see what codes are being logged. With out the proper diagnostic tools you are only guessing and throwing parts at it. Sounds like you have a brake switch circuit problem. The PDL switch blinking is how the system notifies you that a circuit fault has been detected or the system is being engaged when other conditions haven't been met, such as excessive road speed.
hoot68 Thanks this. -
Hoot68,
I also have a 2012 proStar with the N13 and I have been having the EXACT same isssues! Did you ever get a solution?
