I've had my 2014 Maxxforce ProStar now for 207,000 miles. I've only had one 7 day breakdown when the EGR cooler began leaking coolant badly at around 40,000 miles. The truck has been solid with no regen lights or engine lights. I believe this is the last year International uses DPF without DEF. 2014 had some changes in the emissions compared to the 2010-2013 that had nothing but trouble for everyone.

My experience leads me to believe there might be some hidden value in this model year when these trucks start showing up as used trucks in the market, around 350,000-400,000 mile range. MaxxForce trucks have little value currently and only the foolish, ingnorant, or people that like to take gambles with cheap equipment buy the 2010-2013.

Looking for some feed back from other drivers currently running the 2014 MaxxForce with the yellow coolant. If they still have the yellow or switched to red. What king of down time are we seeing with the 2014 MaxxForce?

maxxforce engines currently have 28 lawsuits filed against it. costing companies to much money in down time.

it also violated epa emissions laws. didn't meet the epa standards. to which maxxforce was paying a daily fine. something about it being cheaper then fixing the engine to meet the standards.

there will never be any value to them engines as no one wants them.

you still have low miles, you have yet to face what's in store for you down the road. but who knows. maybe you just got lucky.

US Xpress had a lot of ProStars in the fleet but they had too many coolant leaks. Normally they replace trucks at 300,000 miles but because the ProStar was a money pit they got rid of them much sooner. My buddy at Crete had numerous coolant leaks on his ProStar. I think it's safe to say that the maxxforce engine is junk.

Lots of them up FOR SALE in fleet quantities at below market value in the 300 to 450,000 mileage range

I drove a new 14 with DPF. 505 and 10. Had terrible electrical problems. On the dash in front of the steering wheel are
two lights, square ones, one has a pigtail on it. This light is a LED module, mine burned out and popped the F10 breaker which also controls the regen circuit. ECM detected the no power to regen and crippled the truck. 30mph max, no horses.

Ended up at a rural dealer whom had no clue and had to call binder for schematics....then had no parts.

Binder engineer came down ( to teach us to drive new engine, another story ) and I discussed truck with him. He claimed loose connections, grounds and hardwire solutions. He claimed union retaliation causing all these problems.

They did end up hard wiring the pigtail light around the F10 breaker to solve that problem and I had no more for the remainder of my stay.

Truck got poor fuel mileage ( 5.2 +/- ) but was a horse when it ran. Truck was towed 3 times in 10,000 miles.

One other point, truck was no joy to drive. Had a good wheel base and a nice Eagle cab but when I got out after my 12 or so I hurt bad. That dual steering was hurting my shoulders and the factory seat was cheap. Been driving along time and I don't remember ever getting beat up like that even from a cabover on springs in LA.

I would not buy one unless it were a smoking steal.

The pig tail is the sensor that tells you you need to leave the key in the on position to heat the fuel in the fuel filter for 2minutes before cranking when it is cold outside. Any regen issues after that repair?

the newer motors are forcing older drivers to learn progressive shifting. Once we understand the shift points it works fine but accelerates like a lame dog.

Mine me is getting about 7.1 mpg at 62mph average speed. The ride isn't the best I agree but come on lol. I remember hitting my head on those Schneider flat top cab overs with the set back front axel every bump I hit. :)

That's why Maxxforce are the worse engines ever built. My buddy works for hirschbach and they have maxxforce on 2014 trucks and lower. They all have breakdowns, regen problems, and egr leaks. They just moved to cummins on 2015 trucks for otr. They still buy maxxforce only for local runs.

The cummins with DEF seemed to be doing well in Freightliners. They should be ok in the Internationals moving forward. Just looking to find hidden value if there is going to be any in the '14 DPF only when I'm ready to buy. If you follow prices the DD15 Cascadias are getting more expensive each month on the used truck market. Some times $20k than Pete 387 for comparable miles and year.

I'm impressed about cummins isx15 with performance and mpg. My buddy hirschbach buddy drives a 2015 prostar with isx15 450 hp, 10 sp ultrashift, and 2.64 rear axles. At non windy summer, he gets 9 mpg, loaded at 19k lbs, driving in Midwest, and driving 70 mph.
