Does a 34 hour reset have to be shown on a log book as a reset, or can you just log off duty for the weekend then start Monday with a fresh 70 hours?

Just show it as off duty and/or sleeper berth, depending what you were doing during that time. No need to put anything in the remarks. As long as the total consecutive time of line 1 and 2 equals 34 hours, you get your 70 back.

Thanks Raezzor I figured that writing it in the remarks section might lessen some questions when I get checked.
-
It can't hurt. But it's not necessary. Only stuff you have to put in remarks that I know of is what you are things like fueling, PTIs, load checks, load/unloads, stuff like that. At least, that's all I have put on. Course, I could be wrong too.

Edit: I'm gonna run through the FMCSR quick, because now I'm curious what exactly the regs say about remarks..
Edit2: Hmm, only thing I could find under 395 about remarks is that you need to note the location of each change of duty status. The example they showed didn't say anything about describing what you are doing during that time... but then, I noticed it also didn't show a pretrip. *shrug* -
Since I generally have the weekend off, I turn in one log sheet for Sat/Sun that shows 24 hrs off. I've never written any comments on it, unless I take more time off like for a vacation, then I will show why I have 7 straight days off.
-
The only comment I show is since I log it all as sleeper ( I never am out of the truck for more than 15 minutes unless I am home or taking a shower). I write down the location again about the center of the page. Possibly not necassary but you never know when some idiot is going to know more than we do.
-
Well I guess I'll continue the way I have been doing it, and maybe the next time I get an inspection I'll ask the inspector for clarification.
-
Good idea. Can't get a ticket for asking a question... unless it's along the line of, "Officer, does this beer taste off to you?"
-
Ive done it several ways. If I am at home, I will put "24 hours off duty in _________".
If I am on the road and laid over in a city for a day, I will log going from the sleeper to off duty back to the sleeper. If I arrive at my destination on Sunday morning at 0700 and leave on Monday at 1715, I will log all time off duty in sleeper.
Got DOT'ed 4 times between May and June. Officer will look how I have them logged and count the hours if he is unsure. -
When I logged off for a weekend. I used one sheet and I would write 48 for the total in the off duty hours. On the bottom I would write Off Duty and the dates of the days off duty and the location.
