I think that is typical of a b model, but not 100% sure.

On mine when they are warm they are pretty clean at idle, and just barely a bit of haze when working them (after the turbo catches up). Very blue during cold start this time of year.
I just had one built at Cat in which I took the engine out and took it to them, but we did not do a complete. It included new cylinder packs, polished crank, reseal brakesaver, new rods and mains, new thrust washer, sleeved one counter bore, new compressor, and inspected all the remaining parts. The block was stripped completely down though. I did not need a new head, nozzles, pump work, water pump, oil cooler, or any other external parts. The bill was 17K.snowman_w900, Grubby and SAR Thank this. -
You can get a rebuild done pretty cheap. However, its a gamble on who does it. Doesn't matter if its a reputable guy. I personally would spend the 15-20k on a quality rebuild from cat. Nice to have that warranty and piece of mind.
