3406E replacement turbo

    Morning, looks like I need a turbo for my 3406E, part # 132-3651.
    Bearings have some play.

    I have been browsing the web, how much should I be paying for a new and a quality rebuilt?
    Trying to see what my options are.

    Call Pittsburgh Power and have them set you up...They will go into great detail on whats wrong with Cat turbos..

    you can get the aftermarket turbo cheaper or go with the c-16 turbo

    Will a C16 bolt up or mods requierd?

    and what aftermarket is more economical.

    Michigan turbo sell replacements and upgrade units, for what i found to be good prices.

    It was only the lead time getting the unit to australia that killed the deal for me.
    I needed the unit within 3 days.. its 1-2 weeks shipping from usa to down unda

    I agree with Agent, call michagan turbo ask about quick spool ... might be what your lookin for if you have a stock motor .... If not just get there advice there easy to talk to

    The PP holeset conversion is not just a simple swap ... can tell you first hand ..... have to remove exh manifold and flip it upside down.. now ypu need gaskets possible broken studs.. have to remove some and swap holes on two of em..... then theres the oil feed and return line that have to changed ..... the add a piece to yor intake pipeing.. then prob need to mod your flex.. you get the idea.. Is it worth the effort , i duno .. Gets costly , when i got mine none of the extras were included, but that 5 or 6 years ago ...That holeset is easy to overspeed on a modded motor ... and very sluggish on stock motor... I no longer run a holeset .... but hey its your money! Tried to edit my last post with this , but dont think i did i correctly so if iI doubled down ...sorry

    I agree. Had customer do same swap this summer. He can hit 60 psi boost with the box on level 0 ) level due to ecm file thats installed. He is scared to blow it up. The turbo spools so fast he thinks it will break the shaft. Turbo will stall below 1400 rp aslo. He talked to PP and they were ery surprise a 550 hp 6TS would make that much boost with stock parts only ecm program. They only seem to have knowledge of stock Cat engines with the box installed.

    DDs ..MIne would burry an 80# boost gauge... and they told me i was crazy ... had stock injectors at that time also.. on a side note if someone decides to get one of those PP holesets......... CHECK THE SHAFT FOR BEARING PLAY BEFORE INSTALLING..... my first one exploded .....split compressor case open! Replacement under warnty well.... see statement above .... Will try to post pics of turbo later kinda cool lookin (now lookin back).... I suck at typing and even worse at using cpu.
