You can definitely get by with a 48x96. Palletized product will be easier to load and secure on a 102. A 102 will hold value better then a 96 come resale time. You will not have any problems loading the 96 though.
48"x96" is 4'x8'. 4x8 ain't much of a trailer if you ask me. Sorry couldn't resist.
I ain't an owner/op but I've done flatbed work although it was all local steel and/or building supplies. Most of the flats I've pulled were all 96"x48'. Never seemed to have a problem fitting loads on them.
