Yes, Florida is tough for a plethora of decent paying trucking jobs. To be home every night you might want to consider hauling gas/ diesel. Florida Rock is the only one that comes to mind at the minute. Hauling gas pays well by and large and you'll have to get your hazmat/ tanker endorsement.
Food grade is not going to pay well at all ie Oakley/Bynum/IRT and you'll be OTR. I did 8 yrs with IRT in the end I moved to TX.
good luck -
I don't currently work for ABF. This past year started my LTL career with them. Jumped to XXXX
ABF was great everything, no complaints, Steady work I just wanted to get my foot in the door LTL see if i could do it. Then into where my best friends worked
ETA: I'd rather remain moot on the state. Not being a richard head. Have few post and think its obvious where i live.
ABF Background checks is brutal. I have a clean criminal/driving. 1st month was dandy, Then HR dug really dang deep before i got into the union. I had to explain forgotten jobs worked 1 or 5 days ( whatever Taxiable income paper ) dating back to 1996. Explained to HR those forgotten jobs. It worked out. But dang only thing didn't have to do was a polygraph

$634 is what I currently gross hauling heavy (overweight constantly) loads of wine for this cheap ### company from ga. I'm home everyday but I run to Naples Miami and Tallahassee each week. I'm "salary" and I average 42-50 hours a week. What you have is a blessing for a new guy. I would take everyone's advice and hold out where you are at for at least another 3-4 months. Ryder has local and Florida regional position's delivering to businesses in strip malls and such, they require 9 months.

Is there a South Eastern Freight Lines Terminal in your area? give them a shot, however i would get 6 more months exp. at your present GiG.

Well guys I really do appreciate all the tips and advice. I did just put in an app to MBM. guess we will see what happens. Apparently it's gonna start picking back up in March so I might just stay at Pepsi til I get my year and go from there and maybe put in an app or two here and there and see if I get any bites.

Yeah there is, but you might have a bigger chance of taking a load out of there is you drive for CRST.
I swear, I see more gold Cascadias come out of that yard than anything else. It's disturbing.ACH1130 and CenutryClass Thank this. -
I also work for a subsidiary of pepsi in Kentucky. I have been there about 8months and looking for more money as well. I live near many large carriers and have applied to pretty much all of them. It's been hard trying to find drivers to speak with to find out which one has the most work and gross the most. I do not have endorsements and I know the doubles would be no problem but hazmat I've heard is expensive and annoying to obtain. I have my own route and deliver from a side loader, very physical. The only negative to LTL is nights, but I do not know if food service makes as much money.

this not offical yet still has to be approved by some board they don't expect that to happen till 3qtr in 2014. That is straight from big wigs at sysco. Right now they are still are rivals. And honestly I think they will keep the company's separate like they do all the other company's sysco owns..
Sygma is off emperor drive in Orlando. Cheney is in Ocala -
Cheney brothers distributes for bari beef in Orlando, I believe they use that location as a terminal.
