Yes you could. Many big LTLcompanies have trucks coming thru the shop bay and mechanic does inspection every day. OTR driver is in different situation. Vehicle shall be inspected before move, it's in regulation. Company shop is 1000 miles away. Mobile service booked week in advance. Lot lizard can satisfy driver but doesn't qualify to perform inspection. So driver has only one option left. Self satisfaction.
Mobile service is never booked a week in advance. Even if so, just pay more to be put at the top of the list. Again, not saying it's practical, but it is legal.
That's exactly what mnt keeps claiming. He keeps claiming the driver has to do the inspection, which is what the whole thread is about.
No, You have been claiming that an inspection is not required, not in the regs. If a Problem happens with atruck, it is the drivers problem. Even if it was just inspected at the shop

I saw, its not required, it's only a carrier requirement is not in the Regs. Dot can't make the driver do an inspection .Thats just some of the posts . I saw . Where did you get the idea it is not a requirement ?
I dunno maybe the fact that there is no regulation that states a driver shall conduct a pre trip inspection in accordance with blah blah blah
Thanks for proving us right! It says before moving the vehicle the driver shall BE SATISFIED WITH THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE. It does NOT say the driver must conduct a pre trip inspection. Common sense has nothing to do with this. It's called federal regulations. If its not in the regs, its not required.
