My carrier has us flag pti and log post trip. They're a mega carrier, so I would think that if logging it this way were a problem, we would know by now.
That is both right and wrong. They don't require you to do a PTI, but they do require you to log non-driving work as on duty. So if you are doing a PTI you need to record it as on duty. Since it is work.
That’s both right and wrong. Correct that you log non-driving work as on duty but there is no reg that requires one to “record it” (PTI). In fact there is no reg requiring one to ever state what they were doing while on-duty. What DRIVINGMISSDAISY stated is correct, you don’t have to show a PTI, but as you stated, show some on-duty time when you do.
Well I'd have to disagree. We've had driver's fail inspections because they didn't have a remark on an ELD item. It's been in our CSA guidance a couple of times as of late.
As Bean Jr pointed out question 23 in the FMCSA guidance clears it up. Question 23: When the driver’s duty status changes, do §§395.8(c) or 395.8(h)(5) require a description of on-duty not driving activities (“fueling,” “pre-trip,” “loading,” “unloading,”, etc.) in the remarks section in addition to the name of the nearest city, town or village followed by the State abbreviation? Guidance: No. Many motor carriers require drivers to identify work performed during a change of duty status. Part 395 neither requires nor prohibits this practice. Oh, and BTW, inspections aren’t pass/fail so I’m not sure what is meant by someone failing an inspection.
You are required to inspect the vehicle pretrip, enroute and post trip. I'm sure you have an FMCS Green Book.Page 438," 392.7" page, 596, "396.13" the CSA is clear, you will do vehicle inspection, maybe your carrier does not require it, most do.as far as reporting or logging. It not required
