Getting ready to retire and was wondering about Roehl's 7 on and 7 off, looked at the site stated flatbed is available for where I am located, Mississippi.
Rather than leaving you hanging out there any longer, thought I would share my experience with Roehl's 7, 7 home time option over about a 6 month period. It is for real and worked well for me. I would usually get about 3000 miles during the time out. Load planners did not always get me home on the 7th day, which could be a problem due to HOS. If your 70 hours are used up at the end of 7 days, but you are not home, then you have to do a 34 hour reset because you have no recap hours on which to run (because you were off the 7 days prior to your current run). That only happened two or three times, but it always seemed to have me guessing as the 7th day rolled around as to whether or not I would be home on time. Obviously, it comes with a drop in pay, because you are only working basically half the time. Also, you do not accrue any vacation time when working the 7, 7 option. It also may include slip seating with another driver, but in my case, that did not happen. Nevertheless, your truck has to be left at the terminal during your 7 days off and you must clean everything out of it just in case Roehl needs the truck for another driver during the time you are off. Atlanta is probably the nearest terminal to you. In my case, I lived in the Austin area and had to leave my truck at their terminal in Dallas (about 200 miles away) during my 7 days off duty. Hope this is helpful info for you. Good luck.
