9 Speed

1 more than 8. 1 less than 10.

 

Fun until you try to get it into 13.

 

Advantages, doesn't have that many gears so you don't have to shift so often. Disadvantages, doesn't have enough gears.

 

Is a direct 9?
A 9 over?
A performance 9?

Not enough gears. At 55 I must either be at 1600rpm in 8th or lug it at 1100 in 9th. I prefer my old 10 speed eaton for that even though with this 9 speed the 9th gear has a hefty overdrive that is a real fuel saver.

 

9 more and you'll have a real trans, or so I'm told

 

Many are convertable to a 13 speed
