I've got a 95 379 with a 3406E, Just did an outa frame and swaped trans for a 18918 froma 18718, everything has been great except for an intermitent code 36 (vehicle speed fault). Ive replaced both speed sensors and harness'. only comes on obove 70mph or on a realy hard, long pull. When I did the outa frame I swaped in a 6TS in place of the old 5EK(broken crank) but i reused all the 5EK electronics back over, but I did swap to the 9 series trans. Any ideas? any help would be great.
thanks

The 900 series transmission uses a different part number for the speed sensor, but I believe the work exactly like the old ones do.
you'll need to have the truck hooked to a laptop to see if it is a constant problem or an intermitten problem. If it's intermitten than you'll have a wiring harness or a sensor that isn't reading the tone rings teeth properly. The distance from the sensor to the teeth on the tone ring has to be the proper amount of spacer or you'll have problems. The 700 Series transmissions had an adjustable sensor for depth, the 900 Series don't. -
I was given 2 jumper harnesses to convert to the newer sensors, Speedo reads fine and doesnt seem to cause and driveability issue, I've chased the wire harness, and actually went through the whole thing on the floor when i had the engine out. Didnt know if I had to do any calibration on it or not after the trans swap.
thank you -
Also the ECM sair it was flashed Dec 99. (1851223-00) would this be a pre low nox file or not. truck does run exceptionally strong. original serial #5EK35107
thanks -
If the yoke is loose it will allow the tone wheel to slip and at speed is where it does it the most.

No, you have a Low NOX Software Kit flash file.
If I remember correctly on your truck the speed sensor signal goes from the speed sensor to the ECM and from the ECM to the gauge. The signal maybe dropping and restoring so quickly that you don't see it on the gauge. The ECM will record it with a fault code. You need a laptop with CAT ET to watch the status of the speed sensor while you're driving the truck. You'll also be able to see in the logged history how many times it's occurred.Rig Wrench Thanks this.
