Hi folks. having a problem with my 98 9400. the a/c clutch is kicking out. when travelling at highway speed, and I apply the cruise. When the a/c gets the cab cool enough that the ac kicks out, it will not come back on until I pull over and stop. 98% of the time this happens 2% of the time it works properly. A/C works fine if I drive without cruise. However when I am parked with cruise engaged, to idle up the truck, a/c works perfectly!! stays cold for hours! I used a test light to monitor power from the switch to the clutch, while driving and the power was constant. however the clutch still disengaged.
Any ideas why the clutch is disengaging while it still has power? does the a/c control go through the cluster or the computer?
usually the a/c works properly with cruise on if the ambient temp is low. is there an ambient temp sensor involved in this circuit?
the temperature switch on the condenser is working properly.
Any ideas?
would anyone have a link to a wiring schematic for the a/c?

I should mention I have the equipment, and a refrigeration ticket that says I know how to operate it. system is full of refrigerant, there are no leaks, and it is not freezing up.
ANYONE with a schematic? -
Really? WOT is spot on with the low freon creating a low temp and kicking out the comp bud. Happens all the time. What's your Delta Tee? Your obviously convinced it's electrical......then you know what I know..... it's one of the switches or the POS temp control.
Get the Fluke meter and get busy.... like the soup, it's in there. Put dielectric in every con and check all the pinch points......
Good luck. -

I have been struggling with this problem for quite some time now, and I have checked all the mechanical components. I recently replaced the compressor clutch, as it burnt out. when the compressor kicks out, it still has power coming from the temp sensor, which tells me there is something else between these components that is cutting the power to the clutch. mechanically it works perfectly fine. I ONLY encounter problems whilst driving. when parked it works for hours.... if it WAS freezing up, it would freeze up quicker parked!! I am quite certain its electrical.. that's why I Need a schematic. Kinda hard to follow wires when they disappear into harnesses.
WOT the system is FULL of 134. that is the FIRST thing I checked. I will not apologize for being right! I am not a NEWB or someone that has no mechanical experience. I was just looking for someone who may have seen a similar problem. Changing all the parts is NOT troubleshooting. HENCE my request for a schematic....... -
Does the truck have an APADS module?
-
I do not know What is APADS?
-
6 x4 inch module.could be bolted on passenger or driver side firewall area in engine compartment.will have a red and green l.e.d. light on it along with a white sticker that says "APADS" on it,along with an explanation of blink codes that will identify some a/c electrical issues.

It is an little box that runs the a/c. It is usually bolted to a bracket for either the coolant reservoir or air cleaner depending on your truck, but it is always on the drivers side near the tractor protection valve firewall area. It has a green and red LED on it. It was an option, so not every truck will have it, but if you do, the electrical diagnostics are somewhat different.
