It is just business. All the mega's & even many smaller companies, are going to give the easy freight to company drivers. Saves on wear, fuel, and time.
Same with the better paying freight. 2 or 3 people in the food chain have to make their bonuses to pay for the house they can't afford, or the quarter million in student loans they gotta pay back. They going to do that with $1 mile load, and give you the $4 mile one, do you can keep all the money? Why would they?

Same people, who do you think these mega's hire? The guy with nothing to lose, or the kid in debt up to his ###, that has no choice but to do as the boss will's?

Just do your time until you meet their qualifications.
I humbled myself, to get the experience Landstar wanted.
I'd recommend having a good sized roll if getting your own numbers.
6 months with your new authority isn't that bad. You'll still make money. It's having the money to operate for 60 or 90 days, until your receivables all flow. You can go the factoring route, but why? That's the whole idea of having your own authority so all the blood suckers stop taking little bites out of you.

And you need a dollar or two if you do have a biggy & have to pony up a wad to get the truck fixed.

Short or regional haul is the way to go, without a doubt.

Well.....Here's the deal. I plan to only run Friday evenings, Sat, Sun midnite. Mostly drop/hooks triangle style, avoiding live loads AS MUCH AS I CAN. I want to be a weekend warrior within 3-400 miles.

My own authority & loadboads may not be worth it for 2.5days of trucking - I could be wrong

I have a business that needs me from M-F 10AM -- 6PM and it generates good income, but need to diversify (lease issues)

That's what my analysis is telling me, especially with elogs kicking in and "driver shortage"...it will be especially lucrative for "can you move this load asap". My pre-2000 truck will hopefully run around that 3-400 mile radius enuff times to make it worthwhile for 2.5 days of drop/hooking
