Accelerator Position at Start Up

    start up throttle is okay with that engine being a mechanical. Your owners manual is right. Topkicks a neat little truck.

    i won't swear by that 1997. But today, Everyone's startup procedure is to simply turn the key. The ecm does all the rest. When everything is functioning accordingly, no gas pedal is required.

    Now if you have an older machine of whatever variable, that be a different story.

    From a B model Cat to a big cam 3 to a L10 Not one required any throttle to start, even from cold... Now granted some older Cummins do require throttle on a start, but those engines were so old they had Decompression levers.

    A slight tap of the throttle might fire the engine a few revolutions sooner when cold but IMHO shouldn't be required.
