I was looking for a new job but I had to tell Penske no thanks today and give me your honest opinion if I did the right thing.
They offered me a home every night activity based slot that paid:
.41 a mile
6.15 drop and hook
10.60 per stop when you are there longer than a hour
15.45 delay pay after 2 hours
I said no because they are working you 12 to 14 a day, and it didn't add up. I make 22.50 now and get paid overtime after 8 hours. I didn't like being forced to work that long of a day for less money. Some else they said that didn't sit well with me...that the ones that hustle make the most? Now I've only been driving 7 years, but I have almost a 500,000 with no incidents and I didn't hustle not one time.
Did I make the right move just based on the numbers? Give me your honest opinion...we dont have to agree...but I value the groups input.
thank you

Those are wages you will never see in this industry. The mileage pay and thats about it. All the rest of it depends on detention and other things way above drivers paygrade and your numbers look like Penske broke off small chunks of the money involve in making you sit waiting to be loaded or stops. etc.
41 cents a mile is 20 years ago, I made more than that as a top hand in 2001. The industry is stagnant really bad right now, in some cases still paying .34 a mile dating back 40 years. Keep your nice overtime run at 22. you will do better without the retail expenses of food etc.sevenmph and EuropeanTrucker Thank this. -
Stay hourly. No brainer.

What region is this in? My first impression is that is light money for a short haul local gig. The stop pay is the real clue,a real joke IMO.

I don't get why you would even consider any other job. I mean this seems to be a good steady job that makes good money.

You answered your own question when you said you don't hustle. You need to stay hourly.
FlaSwampRat and x1Heavy Thank this. -
You did the right thing.
