If like magic tomorrow, OTR drivers insisted 'pay me for all hours worked' trucking would change structurally. Toilet paper would go up a couple cents; OTR truckers would have a better life; independents would not be competing against massive amounts of free labor; OTR turnover would drop...
Your life and mine would improve.

See, blah blah blah. You didnt answer the question. What would happen if everyone just drove local and no one drove otr? You telling the op hes better off staying local. Your talking about toilet paper going up. This is where I roll my eyes at you and get up and walk away lmao.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
Not everyone wants local. Not everyone wants a mom & pop outfit. I don't scoff at drivers that want local or mom & pop outfits; that's personal choice. I would have to be really hard up for work to consider either and I do mean really desperate for a job as in take this job or die, before running local or for a mom & pop, but that's me. There's a fit for everyone in trucking.joseph1135, Bumper, bergy and 2 others Thank this.

You're on a rant yourself now, aren't you...

Im like you. I have 17 years driving locally in Ca. and a year now otr. Driving otr is no different than driving locally. All you need is a good truck gps and common sense . It helps if you have p&d experience but not necessary. It will take a little getting used to with driving longer distances than you would locally and your probably better off looking for a company that offers regional just to get started.
I never thought I would ever drive otr but once I tried it, I regret not getting into it early on. Id probably have a few million miles by now had I not waste my time with the mom and pop shops locally. It really all depends on your needs. My opinion, if going home doesnt matter to you then do it. If your the type that needs to be home all the time, then your better off staying local. Doesnt make sense to go otr when you have to be home all the time.
Driving in the snow and mountains is no big deal. Your 12 years experience helps you there. There really is nothing to be intimidated about driving otr. If anything, you should try it out just to see how it is. You can always go back to local.txbigdaddy Thanks this. -
What some drivers consider bottom feeder companies are a lifeline to some in certain situations. Some drivers badmouth, for example, Western Express, forgetting when they needed a job, Western Express was the only company that would hire them. Same with Carolina Cargo; they fill a niche that's sorely needed in trucking by providing employment to those with a troubled past by getting them back in the workforce. Not everyone needs a second chance company, but some do. I respect a company that's willing to do that; it's give and take, lower wages in exchange for a few months work for some to get their life back on track. Pretty good deal.

Your dogs will get hungry while you're gone, they'll eat your chickens and your significant other will start supplementing what little nookie you provide...

You still havnt answered the question. You should have an idea about what your talking about before you start rambling. Thats my point. Lets try this again. What happens if everyone drives local and no one drives otr anymore? And dont tell me about the rise in cost of toilet paper ok. Enlighten us here on ttr. IF YOU DONT KNOW THEN JUST SAY THAT.

Respecting a company that may, in a very limited way, offer a small sliver of drivers a helping hand is different from touting garbage, which is what I think you do. W-E doesn't help anyone to help anyone. They're out to help themselves. The 'help' you refer to is a side effect.
Bottom feeder companies hire lowest rung drivers and/or make lowest rung drivers out of good drivers who mistakenly sign on with them.
Either way, I think you're doing a dis-service. -
What a waste of time I swear.
joseph1135 and Chinatown Thank this.
